Before anyone asks "Have you searched the forums, yes I have, didn't find this.

I have a 1971 (build date DEC '70) FJ40 and the right rear short swing open door has cancer at the bottom of it towards the bottom of the latch and below (see 2 attached pics). Does anyone know where I can find a skin to cut that out and replace it? I found skins for the lower piece of the ambulance doors, but not the short doors like mine.

If nobody knows where I can get a replacement skin, then do any of you either have one of these right side doors you will sell me, or better yet, maybe one of these right side doors that got damaged on the top but the lower section is OK and I could cut it off and graft it together with mine to do the repair?

Thank you all.

They're called barn doors. You can put an ad in the classified section or repair. Below is a link for a possible repair. I know other folks have done similar repairs. You might be able to adapt the skins you mentioned too.

Thank you!

Mine were the same. Rusted along the bottom edge. We ended up cutting the rusted area on the doors and welding in new metal. Mine was a New Mexico rig, never saw salt…..after looking at the corrosion overall, the ‘barn doors, rear sill, rear rain channel….we are thinking that the ‘Sulfur’ fuel additives in the 60’s and 70’s is the cause…..

Cutting the rust out and welding in new metal is a pain but, compared to the cost of a good set (look good anyway) of doors, shipping, prepping that MAY have the same issue that is only a couple of years out from bubbling through….fixing yours may be your best option.

Ouch. That looks worse than the one I have. Thank you though.

If you are interested, I have a pair of very nice barn doors for sale. PM me if you want details. I will not sell them individually though.

Didn't topnault offer barn doors?

These are barn doors that were offered to me in Australia. Only reason I want them is because they are off a RHD and open the opposite way. A pair of rusted out doors LHD up 1/74 the tops would work as repairs for RHD doors because the overlap lip is on the opposite side. thought it would make a cool project to replace the ambulance doors went top is off. It would allow the one door open with spare closed. Have an idea of make it work without drilling new holes. I opted to take the rear axle as well. Now has inner axles. Passed on the front with monster brake drums.

Australia... Fairdinkum?

Had no idea of the meaning.
Not looking at RHD versus LHD Australia is preferred over South and Central America. Not going find these there.

That was an Australian term I learned while there.

While stationed in England, my grandfather bought a British RHD car and it was still in his garage when he died in 2004 at age 86. So I have always been fascinated by RHD cars. As a kid I used to hide in it when everyone was playing "Hide and Seek" because the other kids were afraid to go anywhere near it. LOL... WINNER WINNER!!!
