Deep freeze.....

There must have been something REALLY important at the end of that trail! :)
Yeah, the TURN AROUND SPOT!!

Just to not completely hijack this, I used to run my “F” at 5 degrees Fahrenheit quite frequently. The Vortec cares even less...

I drive my 42 in -30c a lot haha. Only way i know there is no salt/slush on the roads its rock hard. Last winter i got the cab up to 24c inside its pretty toasty. Heater needs the foam replaced i get alot of cold air flowing in this winter so its just been sitting since nov

It was 9 degrees this morning down here in SC!! I drove the 40 to work. The cabin warmed up faster than the carb!

Ernest, just read through your build thread. Awesome job and beautiful color. You in Greenwood? I'm in Columbia and should be getting a 40 soon to use near Brevard NC.

I have a question : ... I look at this picture of yours and I too think it's cool. VERY Cool. We look at the pic and wish we could be there. It's that good. Your buried in heavy, wilderness snow olive rig is basically a post card. ... But WHAT IF, while being out there in the middle of literally nowhere, in these same conditions you're showing us, your rig doesn't start. Or, what if it just stops on you and then doesn't start. Or maybe the metal of the suspension becomes soooo cold, something snaps in half. Then what ?? ... In this pic, you very well could be close to civilization here. But let's say you're actually miles away. Or something like I, myself, would be faced with - miles & miles away. And let's just say it's now 3:45P, and by 5:20P the sky is solidly dark, albeit for the glow of gray from the white, frozen snow. I mean, I don't even see a CB antenna. ... I'm just asking, because I too would be one to venture where you've showing us you've gone. But I'm knowing that I too have been physically stuck before, with severe hypothermia, and was praying hard I'd remain alive. And my stories of such have occurred more than once. ... Perhaps the answer might be a buddy system, with more than one rig venturing into such a situation of an otherwise VERY Cool environment ?? ... Just asking.

You Sir, make very good points. The picture is legit, it's from last weekend and yes, quite a few miles from anything. What you can't see are the 6+ other trucks that were up there also and those rigs were/are very well built also. I'd NEVER even consider getting out in snow half that deep without being sure that I was going with others and had a way back out. And worse case scenario, I bring enough clothes and other items to spend the night if need be. Conservative guess says the snow was over 4' and boy was it fun ;)

... Awesomeness !!

@Skydog and @Rock40; cool and cool. My 40 runs great now but it did not for quite a while. I very rarely take it into remote areas alone. Have even filled up the other halfs 4Runner with fuel to have a support vehicle along; just in case. Love the pic, reminds me of the areas outside of Buffalo where I grew up.

My own other half's 4Runner (my 'other halfs' being my family of doggers) :

I've long been extremely guilty of venturing into massively remote areas - solo. As in throughout the vast majority of my life. The existing weather conditions not even phasing me. And I've gotten myself into severe trouble along the way - multiple times. Have I learned from my mistakes of venturing into massively remote areas - solo ? ... No. ... Not really. :-(

As most of us here come to realize for our own selves, we often stumble cross some really cool stuff along the way though, during our remote excursions. And an accumulation of enuff stories to perhaps pen a book or two about :)

Things can & do unexpectedly happen. And we must be able to get safely back from such places. ... I'm still growing... and still trying to learn this concept. :)
