I couldn't find a decent mount for my FJ40 I decided to make one. The one from Kaymar just wasn't the one I was looking and the from FJ Mount you can't find or buy so ...… I used a J-Mount (Bolt) for a Jeep TJ and JK chopped off the angle piece since the angles don't match, made a template from my Cruiser cut it out and welded on the J-Mount. After mounting it to my cruiser there were some adjustments that needed to made so the mounting holes lined up, did so touch up painting. The box said you can use your own key but it needs to be a Jeep key, I used my Dodge Ram key it works and it not a Jeep key.

Its a little costly, the J Mount ranges from 85 to 125 on ebay. Its custom made to my Cruiser so not sure it it'll even work on a different one. It would be easier to have a fab shop make one. Just make template for your angle then you'll mark out for the hole height on your jack then alter the J Mount (see picture) then you'll need to bring it back to the fab shop. Unless you want it to hang off the mounts. Mine sets on a piece rubber that rests on the step.

Thanks,

It’s a great way to hang a jack.

I am on the way to a fabricator to copy from these photos. Your looked nice so I just had to ask!

Looks good. I made one for mine also, a little less complicated though and less secure- no key just a nut and bolt. Works great just a little rattle every so often from the gear.

Has anyone gotten away with a setup like this WITHOUT bolting the jack to the running board? maybe some sort of clip assembly? I hate drilling extra holes but I agree this seems like a good place to store one.

Some really strong magnets? I have to admit, it hurt drilling holes into the running board... :(

@Frank Lavalier that looks like a stout setup!

Here is mine. I copied the FJ Mount, even used a locking knob. Pretty simple, even for a welding hack like me. If you went with thicker gauge 2x2 you probably don’t need that upper tab welded on.

Yeah I know what you mean, I did drill 2 holes in my running board. I picked up some belt material from Harbor Freight 3/16 X 4, it's reinforced, got more than I'll ever need. Then I picked up (2) 1/2" pins w/ hinge pin clips from Ace Hardware. It keeps everything on place and zero raddles (at least from my jack).

Make a bracket that utilizes the bolt between the fender and running board ... like a large flat L ... put rubber between the bracket and running board

It's possible to make a base support that bolt to the stock bolt under the running board if you dont want to drill nice running board

Or using both the fender bolt ... AND the running board bolt :)

Or from nice slider that protect your nice running board , that you dont want to drill on , plus its a nice place to actually use the jack for reel

Yes - this is exactly what I meant. Was just curious if anyone had actually done it, as opposed to drilling holes.

I especially like the slider idea...

Ironically, my running boards aren’t even nice... and my truck is V8 converted and modded in about a dozen other ways - I just hate drilling new holes in old metal.

Is that a ram locking knob? Haven't seen one in person before. Does it come with the bolt in it, then you got a matching nut and welded the nut inside the mount?

Here’s what I got:

SportRack Hitch Rack Locking Knob with Bolt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCLKUQU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HDGuCb91AK0ZS

It was under $10 when I bought it a couple of years ago you might be able to source it cheaper than Amazon.

And yes I welded a nut on the inside - I got an uncoated nut from Grainger/Fastenal that was easier to weld in place.
