I am in final stage of replacing rear sill, floor, parts of crossmember and corner patches.
The CCOT corner patches had to be cut/adjusted a bit but looked good until I noticed a bulge outwards on the weld seam. That particular area was a bit wider so I had to build up weld material...suspect it got too hot.

How should I address the bulge? I was going to tap on it with dolly behind. Body filler will float it around curve.

Right approach?

don't use filler you need to shrink the metal... very common in that area.

Thx antFJ....
I was going to skim/float, naturally, but first try to tap in bulge with hammer/block. Is that what you mean by "shrink"? Or is this a more involved process of heating and cooling?

you can do it many ways... I have used a pointed hammer to make many little "dings" in the metal and then flattened it back out with a hammer and dolly with limited success. After you do that you'll need just a tinny little layer of filler to cover up the hammer marks if you can't get them all out with the dolly. Does the panel flex in and out like an oil can? Look up how to fix oil canning on the youtube and you'll get some ideas on how to shrink that metal. Both builds i've done i've had issues there... i plan on just replacing the whole quarter panel if i ever need to fix that area again so i won't even have to mess with it.

Great, thx! No oil canning, just a raised/bulging ridge where weld is. Will try with hammer first/dolly first..
