Hey guys.. was snooping around for parts for my fj55, saw this classified, and unbelievably its located a couple of miles from me, and is owned by a guy i used to be on a deer lease with.

Before I talk to him, what do you guys think about the value? I havent gone to look at it, or talked with him yet, so was looking for some idea before I did.

BTW... wasnt sure if this was the right forum for this.. if not please move it to the correct forum.

It would be worth that on the east coast by the description.

looks to have some serious crappy work on the rear. The 1/4's appear to have been welded to the rear bumper and than bondoed over.

that is one of the strangest things I've seen done to a 40. i wonder what's going to happen over time as the body and frame flex.

That is one ugly modification. On a positive note, one would hardly notice it for the multi-color scheme and bad paintwork....

Seems pretty pricey to me, but then I don't follow the Texas market values.

Not no but HELL NO. Stay away from it unless you get paid to take it. It will most likely be so much more work than you ever dreamed, you will shoot yourself once you start the tear down for the rebuild. If you know the guy, ask him why he trashed a classic.

I know the guy, and he doesn't have the skills(?) to do that...my guess is, he bought it that way.

I'll wave off... There's a defender I've been looking at too.

One can never have too many projects.

Not to get too far off topic... But it's a 1973 series 3

Anybody know a solid fj40 in the $5k range?

Thanks for the info.

First of all a Series III is not a Defender and as far as driving manners go it makes a 40 feel like a Ferrari. Depending on where you live, the frame will be rusty and a galvy frame is huge money. Parts are more expensive. They're a pain to get worked on if you can't do it yourself and Lucas wasn't known for reliability.

Be patient and you'll find a 40 in your price range. When you're emotional about buying you'll use your heart and not your head.

Use www.searchtempest.com everyday and be prepared to travel. Have your cash and a friend ready to go.
