Driving home last night and we get to the corner just down from our house and my daughter just barfs repeatedly. Happened so fast, and i was in the middle of a turn in the intersections so i couldn't do anything. She was alone in the back seat and spewed all over the place and lots of it. I had to pull our the rubber floor and clean beneath it. The seats performed well - barf just beaded up and ran off the back, but i'm still worried about sanitization and such. Anyone have a good idea to make sure the smell is gone and it's sanitary? Mom suggested a steamer.

My daughter must be allergic to the new car smell. When I bought my tundra last spring, she barfed all over the back of it the first few weeks i had it too - that was harder to clean up than the FJ. She'd never barfed in my fj40, what gives?

Sounds like she is marking her territory! Get the interior cleaned by a pro to get rid of the "diced tomatoes" you may have missed. It'll be clean but the smell may linger especially on a warm day. One thing I learned while moving dead bodies is to place an old washcloth in a ziplock bag and soak it with Listerine. You do not want any liquid in the bag. You want it soaked up in the cloth. Zip the bag mostly closed and place it under your front seat. It'll smell minty fresh for awhile but will dissipate over time. It's worked for me for years.

Maybe the new cars make her carsick at first, new feel, bad visibilty, etc over the 40 and clear windows and such.

I happen to throw up in the back seat of my 4runner one night. I think I ate a bad shellfish sandwhich. But anyway, the next day I too worried about smell and all that jazz. I pulled all of the plastic parts up around the door opening and cleaned up under the carpet. Lots of carpet cleaner and febreez. Then leave the windows open for a day while the carpet and everything dries. The trick is to get ALL of IT out of your car. You should be fine. I haven't smelled it since. Just get it all out of your truck. It tends to seep into cracks and crevices. Good luck.

i scrubbed, then rescrubbed with ammonia, then steam cleaned. I can't smell it on the saets anymore, but it's in there somewhere. Can't get rid of the vomit smell yet. I'll hve to pull the floor up again and see if I missed something.

Use one of the enzyme cleaning products designed to clean up after pets or kids vomit, poop, urine, etc. It just soaks in and kills the odor as it dries. Should be available at any pet store or department store.

yeah, my little girl is a little tike - 4 yrs old and a handful. It's good she's such a cutie or I might be mad.

I picked up some of that enzyme stuff at the cleaning supply store. Guy there swears by it. If that doesn't work I'll have to try the air thing. I have an air purifier in the house that supposedly removes odor - don't know for sure because our house doesn't stink and didn;t before we bought it. Maybe I should just put that int he car overnight. Maybe I'll do both.

I stopped by the Toyota dealer to pick up a passenger armrest - they want $250 for it. My bro bought his for like $80 from the dealer in Boise. I think I'm done with the Logan dealer.

JK!

some people cannot be in new cars because the out-gassing of the plastics makes them sick and break out or get severe allergies. this may be the case w/ your daughter, might want to check on the allergy thing.

general feeling towards any vehicle that is not a true land cruiser? does she barf in fords and chevys also? what would she do if put in a chrysler?

fwiw, i can't stand the "new car smell" and often feel queasy when i'm am forced to smell it for long amounts of time.

Just pull my one of my tickets for the 62 your giving away and I'll forget you said that. ;p

Car Sick

You might try a small bag of Charcoal Bricketts. See if you can find some without any petroleum products added to them. They will help to soak up bad odors. Don't cook anything afterwards. Try leaving them in the car with the bag open for a few days.

Good Luck,

Dick

i have the enzyme stuff working tonight. going to try the air purifier odor remover tomorrow. Then charcoal if that doesn't work. I like the new car smell - especially preferred over the vomit smell.

"not a true cruiser?" - don't you have three rigs with v8s in them? The Fj's are made by the same co that made your(our) old cruisers and they have the original toyota engine. Have you driven one yet? Taken one wheelin? I wished they would have produced something a little closer to original at first, but they have grown on me. Still like my FJ40 for the same reasons I always have but I'm not embarassed to say my FJcruiser is a pretty sweet rig. I think those who dog them, really just want one.

I could not agree with you anymore...:D:D:D

I will take my FJC many places any FJ40 been to....

I had a similar experience. In 1990 we had bought a brand new Jeep Cherokee. My 3 year old daughter vollied puke from the back seat up and over the front seat...on the ceiling...down the back, and under the seats. It was all cloth interior. I took out all the seats in the rig, and had a professional steam cleaner come over to my garage to clean it. I'll never forget it. Maybe it's more common than we think?
