I was thinking about the FJ62 mirrors the other day. They are loud and slow, otherwise no real complaints with them. The FJ cruiser ones have a cool forward facing light on them. So, what about it?

Anyone ever tried it?
Think it would look good?
Fitment? Anyone have photos side by side?
Advantages/Disadvantages?

Tell me what you think.

ive never seen it done.. you could be the first! I wonder if the lights are actually useful.. they aren't turn signals, are they?

I don't think so, they are clear, and they face forward rather than back.

I havn't seen them on a 6x series but i have seen the bulbs changed out for some bright led's that really light up like headlights.

go for it, and report back.

I use the perimeter lights on my firetruck on every call at night: they are super useful. Imagine an additional forward light source at your 9-12 and 12-3 o'clock could be helpful in revealing holes, branches, etc at night.

i run these mirrors on mine
they are off a Nissan Patrol (i apologize for swearing) they are a direct bolt on

Those look like a good simple solution. I'm a bit of a creature comfort guy, even in the rig. That's why I own a 62 instead of a 60! LOL.

MWALLS54: Exactly what I was thinking. The swap of brighter LEDs in there could make it worth it. I just am wondering how well they'll fit up and what it will cost to pick up a pair. The wiring shouldn't be very hard to change up. Anyone got a spare pair kicking around??

Ive been thinking about this one myself (for a 60 though).

From what I can tell, the mounts are not direct, but the body line angle may lend itself to the conversion. From pictures I have seen of the unmounted FJC mirror, it appears that there are 3 threaded holes in the mirror housing itself, suggesting that the mirror is mounted from inside the door. In addition (at least on the 60) you would have to open a large hole for the wiring connector.

Here is what Im talking about. Though not an OEM version, I am assuming the mounts and wiring connector are the same.

TOYOTA FJ CRUISER 07 08 09 POWER HEATED SIGNAL MIRROR R: eBay Motors (item 350366524699 end time Jul-12-10 19:26:44 PDT)

Give it a shot, and let me know how it turns out.

Somebody do this so that the rest of us can piggyback on your ingenuity! Heated, Power Mirrors would be awesome on my 60!

thanks,
Dan

Maybe another project for slcfj62? :D

IIRC there are three leads for the motion o nthe FJ62's mirrors. I wonder if the control circuit is identical to that of the FJC. If that was the case you'd only have to wire the leads for the lights (I'd connect them to the parking light circuit), adapt the new plug and you'd be good to go.

I like the idea of having mirrors with lights on the front, AND that come black from Toyota.

Why don't you just go ahead and pt H3 mirrors on there?

Leave it stock, or get the "Aussie" mirrors".

I've looked at this.
From my research it seems the body lines would work well, but the mounting holes do not line up well....if i could get my hands on 1 mirror, I would be interested in playing around with it.

Looks like $100-$150 each for mirrors from the local junkyards around Spokane.

I've thought about the same thing but that is as far as I took it (daydreaming is easy). The only thing I like on the FJC is the mirrors (well, some of the drivers are 'ok' too)... :p

Impossible, we all know that the Hummer brand is so heavy duty, that mounting an H3 mirror to the FJ62 door would rip it directly off of the truck.

Really, I did not like it at first but my mothers is awesome. everytime I visit them in Moab (they live there full time) I take it on Steel Bender and Behind the rocks.

I am about to stick an OME lift on it and some bumpers.

I am in preliminary talks with the manufacturer to make these mirrors with correct matching 60 mounts. Any interests?

I'm especially interested if the wiring connector is plug and play with the 62 mirrors. Naturally a separate set of pins will be required for the light. Maybe that makes it more of a PIA than it's worth, but having the plug and play would give you more 62 drivers...

Either way, I'm probably game...

x2 for me, providing they aren't mega bucks as well. I could always tape a flashlight to my mirror if this endeavor turns into mad money (not to mention the tape may fix the wobble).

I'm interested. Who is Toyota's OEM for the FJC mirrors?
