This a cool idea, I loved my FJC, and if the mirrors were a direct bolt on, what a great upgrade!

Somebody do this already!!

I am in preliminary talks with the manufacturer to make these mirrors with correct matching 60 mounts. Any interests?

Im interested.

But, what manufacturer? The Toyota OEM? Or an aftermarket mirror manufacturer? What will be included? Wiring connector, wiring adaptor (for FJ62) or wiring harness (for FJ60)? Will it have a convex passenger mirror (like a stock FJC PS mirror), or a flat mirror like the CCOT replacement? What cost range?

Sending you a PM also, I have additional ideas for a productized version of this.

Jaxonm,

Those are great questions that I will get figured out. Right now I am in talks to figure out if they could do this for us at all, and then I will put up a poll to see how many people would be interested in this. (I will respond to you PM when I get around to that stuff :D, that way its in the que)

Also, if anyone has any other questions post them up here so I can make sure they get answered.

Just one comment, they're not heated.

I do like the idea though, The FJC has big mirrors. However, going back and forth between the FJC and the 60 is like driving a submarine and an aquarium.

Anyone made any progress figuring out if these will work?

I missed the last few posts of this thread. It'll save alot of wiring hassle if the windows are not heated (was there even an option for heat on these?). So the only issue will be getting the motors to work and the lighting. If I can track down an FJC wiring diagram I can compare that to my 62's diagram for the mirror adjustment and also get the lights to work. I'm thinking since they're said to be so bright when upgraded to LEDs I'll wire them into the headlight circuit so they can shut off when you turn off the headlights (gotta turn off headlights when going through any military base's gate, so that's a concern for me, for the courtesy factor of not shining a mirror light into the face of the guard).

Depending on my budget when I get my other projects finished, I'll dig around for some FJC mirrors at the local junk yards and see what I can come up with for mounting and wiring them.

Man, I have 62 mirrors on my 60...I thought that was slick enough...

I cant seem to get the manufacturer to answer any of my questions in a timely manner....if anyone has contacts at toyotas OEM supplier, i'd love to talk with them.

i've been eyeballing FJC mirrors of ebay, thinking they would be nice on a 60.
Not too crazy about the lights, but i think i've seen a pair without the light. Only heat. That would be my priorities, and a convex mirror. I think i made a thread on this earlier on mud, dunno.

BUT, if the light would light up my area right in front of the wheel, that would be useful. Just wire it trough a simple switch. Powered mirrors are way to fancy for my 60, but hey...

I have a couple of FJC mirrors lying around and as luck has it ... My 62 is naked inside. I will try to fit one up this week and post pics.

BTW - Rock Auto has the ebay mirrors for $76.79

The FJC does not come with heated mirrors from the factory. The heating element on these aftermarket heaters are wired to the light on the mirrors. When you turn on the headlights on the FJC the mirrors heating element is activated.

Do they give any specs on how much wattage the combination of light and heat element pull? Might be a good idea to measure so a custom harness can be wired up to provide enough power. I'm thinking run a pigtail from both the low and high headlight leads (be much easier to do with an aftermarket harness, but this would keep the mirror lights on with either combination of headlights on) to a fused 30A relay that can power both mirrors. Adding a circuit like this to something like slcFJ62's custom harness would be a cakewalk, since he's already providing a fuse & relay panel. Only hard parts would be adapting to the 62's mirror motor control and then running wires from the relays into the doors for the light/heat circuit.

My FJC has the stock mirrors, they are flat glass not convex. They have a filament bulb inside the marker lights. I don't know offhand the draw but it can't be much.

The aftermarket ones replace the filament style marker bulbs with led's. I think that this is why they installed the heating element, the led's draw less so the extra capacity goes towards the heating element. I will see if I can pull the glass off the Rock Auto ones and see if there is any info written on the element.

btw. The ones from Rock Auto are black in color

Do you have the rockauto ones in hand? I'm curious to see how the quality is compared to the OEM Toyota assemblies.

I have a pair that I ordered for one of our FJC pals. I haven't taken them apart but from the outside they look pretty good. They come in black, ready for paint but I know one person running them as they came out of the box and they seem to be holding up pretty well.

I pulled out the aftermarket mirrors and compared them to the 62 mirrors. The mounting is completely different as well as the wire harness. Is it doable? I am sure that someone with the desire to do it can get it done in short time. Is it worth it? In my opinion - no, the mirror looks a little out of place mocked up on the 62 body. It is rather large and clumsy looking (IMHO) and takes away from the "old school" look of the 62.

Man, I really thought I would like they these looked, but a little to clumsy and out of place looking for me...

Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I actually like the look. I wish the mirrors were flat black in color, but that's a minor thing.

I checked out the wiring diagrams for the FJCs and from what I can tell (and what I remember off the top of my head on the 62), the controller looks like it'll work. What I'd do is get a connector from the truck side of the harness from an FJC, solder the wires from my 62's harness to the appropriate control wires on the FJC connector, then bring in the light/heat wires to a relay that'll be controlled by either a dash switch or (if I get mirrors without heat) my headlight circuit. I'm sure using the heat in warm weather wouldn't damage anything, but why put the extra wear and tear on the circuit when you can avoid it?

Mounting looks like it'll be a challenge, but it definitely looks possible with some drilling. Just to avoid putting too much stress in one area of the sheet metal, I'd definitely massage it a bit and use a sheet of 16ga steel behind it (inside the door) for extra support.
