HEllo, Pretty new here. Have an 84 fj 60 that was desmogged by po. Has a holley carb. Nice little rig. 300k on it but pretty clean. Anyway, am looking at some possible upgrades for performance/ fuel economy. Not a mudder. Just a daily driver. Any thoughts as to brands , models etc would be appreciated. Or just tell me it's an old rig and not to expect much! Thanks,

Fj60 gets bestmilage when parked.

Rude, I know.

Best improvement in performance is to do a v8 swap.

Best mileage improvement is to do a diesel swap

Everything else is splitting hairs. Good tune up, new plugs, etc might give you 1 mpg.

Best improvement for highway mileage is to slow down. Best I have seen is 17 mpg at 50 mph. City driving...nobody gets better than 10.

At 300k, if you plan to keep this truck, then don’t spend any money on upgrades. Save it all for a new motor that will do what you want.

Thanks. I drive pretty conservatively ~ 50-55. I'm doing about 12.5 mpg. With a new engine, the diesel swap with a h55 tranny is likely the route I would head. Thanks for your imput.

Sounds like it is tuned pretty well already, don't mess with it till the Holly fails. Be careful with the valve lash, and don't lean it out trying to get better mileage

Timing advance

FJ60 valve adjustment

Get another vac advance carb, or at least the vac module while you can. These are pretty rock solid.

OEM carb and dizzy are both better than any aftermarket products. If it's running good and getting 12 mpg, then best to leave it alone.
