I’m having trouble with my stock aisin carb and ordered the city racer Fuji carb, the carb is for desmogged applications, my fj60 currently has all smog equipment other than being disabled by capping the line from modulator to pump. My question is could I go on and install the Fuji carb by just capping all the unused vacuum lines to carb or do I need to do a complete desmog?

No sense letting that dead octopus of a mess just sit there, in the way. Getting rid of the tangled mess really opens the space up under the hood and makes doing anything in there that much easier.

I understand that but my main reason is that the truck is currently stranded in Arizona. So I needed a quick new carb to get me home. I also would want to stray away from that because I intend to register the car in in California sometime in the future which requires smog, I’d rather just rebuild my stock carb and throw it on when I do so.

If you need to keep smog stuff, I *think* you can swap the top plate from Fuji carb to stock carb to keep the vac lines. But…. Why not just rebuild the stock carb instead of swapping? To properly desmog is a lot more than a carb swap and cap some lines.

I 100% intend to rebuild my original carb but for now I just need to get home I’ve been stuck at my friends place in Arizona. Currently in the process of replacing the carb. If the egr is disabled I’m assuming there will be no air through any egr ports? Therefore I can run the desmogged carb for a bit with the capped vaccum ports

I think part of the problem you run into is the air pump still pumping and EGR stuff.
I would disconnect any electrical to those, cap all vacuum except pcv and power brakes and disconnect/cap the vacuum advance. That should be a short term/limp home fix.

What was the original carb doing?

Original carb completely wouldn’t idle, had intermittent hesitation on the freeway. Isolated it to junk in the carb, whenever u drained fuel at the filter the junk would pull away from the jets and it would run fine for a bit. Took a look inside the carb and it has a fair bit of corrosion. I will be putting the Fuji carb on today I’ll see how it runs

Underneath it all, you still have a very simple 2F engine. I bet you could remove every single vacuum line, except maybe to the brake booster, and drive it home. Might be nice to keep the dizzy vacuum advance but you can get by without it. An idler pulley would be nice when you get home. Run that until your carb is ready and it's time for your smog check.
