If your valve train was a high class escort charging $2500/hour, then mine is a two-bit, snaggle-tooth hooker in the slums of Somalia.

Looks like I pulled the trigger just in time with this gasket.

Anyone on the fence of doing this yourself, do it. Nothing at all is hard about it. I had tons of fun removing it and kinda bummed it went so fast. But, I will enjoy cleaning and setting up the rest while I wait for the head job and other parts.

Who is doing the head work?
Parrish Automotive. I still have to call them, and I am waiting for my seals to arrive. I was referred to a place by Valley Hybrids, but it is about an hour and 40 min South of us.

Injectors going out and got ready for the cleaning stage.

And some respected “pro’s” say they’ve never seen an injector service help anything. I’ll say that mine were not near as bad off as yours. Good call on sending them in.

Nice results. I had mine done as well by Dr Injector in Rancho Cordova. Ended up needing 1 new injector too.

I heard of Dr Injector after I sent these out and apparently another really good company.

Question for you: Did you send out your head as an assembly with buckets and cams to Parrish?

Yeah, they needed the whole assembly since I did a full valve grind & adjustment. I don't remember ever removing the buckets though. Do those have to come out to remove the head? It's been so long since I did mine, 8yrs sheesh!

Time flies my friend. No you do not. I thought I was just sending the bare head in, so they are going back in.

Head lightly assembled for the machine shop and headed home. Also pulled the power steering hoses and paperclip. All new high and low hoses will go in with a 17" Derale cooler.

Don't forget to do the engine mounts while you're in that deep! Everyone that did the turbo has said that was the one thing they should have done and didn't think about.

Doing some great work man! What’s the turn on the head?
Turn around time? Not sure...My head gasket kit is on backorder and I need the valve seals from it to proceed. Last shop I called said 4-6 weeks.

I have been pondering this. The list of projects keeps growing while I am in here lol. Never thought I would be replacing all the steering hoses, but when you are cleaning and see how empty the bay is, it just makes sense.

You might be surprised at how hard and cracked the engine isolators are. While the head is off you have more clearance between engine and firewall which will allow you to jack up the front of the engine higher making the isolator swap easier not to mention all the new found room you now have. The trans mount is also called an engine isolator so there are three altogether.
