LH kick panel, upper right hand corner of the relay block you will find behind it, iirc.

I am guessing that you don't hear it click?

It looks like a proprietary relay, but it's a fairly standard type clipped into an adapter that moves the center tab to the other side.

I forget the identification. You can remove the Denso relay from the adapter and use Bosch, generics, etc.

Green wire is typically the "TAIL" fuse circuit and not related to the turn signals.

Did you remember to plug the HAZARD switch back in before you buttoned up?

First things first: You need to have power at the Hazard switch.

So this is the radio I have installed.




I've disconnected factory amp behind PS dash speaker next to glove box.




And disconnected factory sub woofer behind inside DS rear quarter panel.




None of my fuses have blown, but I've read several threads on blown fuses caused by after market radio and connected factory amp and subwoofer.

I have disconnected the correct connections, yes?????

Ok fellas. Here's the latest. Put everything back on the dash. Connected stereo.





Previously, when the stereo was installed and the rear DS door would open, then the stereo would fail. Turned on truck. Turned on stereo. Opened DS rear door.




Stereo didn't fail!!!!! Awesome.

Connected everything back. Dang. It's so simple back there. Just plug and you're back in action.





Not sure what this connection goes to. I didn't see a connection for it back there. Hhhhmmmmm???????? Maybe nothing.

Wow. I have learned so much here on mud. It's amazing!!!!! Seriously. At first I freaked out with this electrical issue. And cruising over to the local car electrician and paying 1k or more was a definite no go.

One thing I have learned over the years with these trucks when a problem arises is to take a deep deep deep breath. Let a day or so go by. Hop on mud. And tackle the issue with the help of all you fellas. Big thanks mud!!!!! She's ready to cruise out again!!!!!

Ok fellas. Here's the latest. The stereo is not working properly. I can tell that the buttons on the stereo are not doing what they should. Like I turn up the volume and it decides to seek forward for a radio station. Or I press the seek - minus button and it it changes the mode as in AM 1 FM 1 FM 2 and such. I will try resetting if possible and see what happens.

Any chance the stereo has been wired incorrectly???

Is it possible that my previous electrical issue has somehow fried the harness and messing with my stereo????

Thoughts????? It's easy to get back there. Don't mind pulling it apart if you guys have some suggestions.

That sounds like a stereo issue, nothing to do with the wiring.

Looks like it has a removeable face, maybe it got sat on at one time.
You can always disassemble it and look for a cracked circuit board.

Good thread, I need to do a bunch of this myself. P/O have done a lot of funky wiring, some is still there and I gots a few demons in the system. Not really looking forward to it but your thread is encouraging.

Thanks man. Ya. I def couldn't of done it without the help of this community. It's rad pulling this stuff apart. I wish I was more knowledgable on reading electrical diagrams and stuff. Good luck with yours. Slow and steady works.

Check the voltage at the radio. Low voltage can cause weird things to happen. Also check your ground connections for the radio.

Hhhhmmmm. This has me thinking. Should there be a wire connected to the radio and grounded somewhere behind the dash???? I saw a ground connection back there. The wire was just cut. Didn't think much about it.

Yes, head unit should be grounded. I did my install a few weeks back. Old unit was grounded separately from the stock wiring harness. So I don't know if there is a ground right there in the stock harness without checking the FSM.

usually the chassis of the radio will be grounded to the vehicle via the installation brackets.

There's 3 wires on most radios.

yellow = constant +12v (memory) power
red = ignition controlled +12v power
black = ground

Cool. Thanks. I'll be pulling out the radio once again and checking out all the connections. Of course pics included.

I'll ask again. What's this connection to?? Alarm??? I don't recall it being connected when I opened up behind the dash.




Also. The lights are out on my hazard, defrost, and antenna up/down switches. I don't recall them being on before I tackled the electrical issues. Bulbs out on all three switches???? Seems funky.

It has foam wrapped around the connector. That is a clue that it is Factory Toyota.

It very well could be for your switch backlights. What's on the face side of where the wires go to?

Ya. The foam wrapping is def factory. I was also thinking it was the connection for the lighting of those switches. I def missed that connection when putting things back. The front is covered due to PO putting some kind of cell phone/iPod holder of sorts. I recall seeing pics on other threads with some sort of factory alarm indicator in that location.
