Hi folks,

I have a 1986 4runner which I'm trying to add A/C to.

I read the fantastic guide here on it.

Regarding the AC wiring harness, there's are 4-pin and 5-pin variants. I understand my 1986 would be using the 4-pin variant.

I have a source for a 5-pin harness and I was wondering...

Could a 5-pin A/C harness be made to work with a 4-pin system?

Could I, e.g., scavenge the 4-pin plastic connector from somewhere else and wire it up to the 5-pin harness?

Cheers.

Show me a pic of the harness in need. I took the time to save a 5 speed harness thinking I'd need it in my 87 4 runner (I think 86 and 87 are the same) and I'm no longer using the factory ac wiring.

It could be done, but it would be a total PITA. I looked into it myself but you'd need extensive wiring diagrams, and the cleanest/only way to do it IMO would be to re-pin the 4 pin to the 5 pin but you'd have to track down the other 5 pin connector on the dash harness.

The 4 pin harness is out there, but I would definitely look under the dash to see which one you have for sure. I had a buddy with an early 1986 and it had a 5 pin.
