Any suggestions on where to mount a standard fire ext in a LC100? It is 14" high and 3" round. Was thinking in the back behind the second row seats somewhere (don't use the 3rd row at all) but worried about just mounting it to the plastic interior walls without metal to tap into with the screws. Also thought about passenger side on the transmition housing, right under the heater vent...? I can probably reach the metal through the carpet with a 2" screw...

Another thought, maybe under the hood somewhere (not too close the engine of course due to heat)...

Also, it says not to store in 120 degrees or higher. I would think my rig can get just a little over 120, but not by much, on really scorcher days here in Washington State - but I think it's probably ok.... thoughts??

Thanks...

Always mounted one in front of driver side seat (canister laying down of course). Build a bracket that anchors to the front seat anchors so it can handle braking, or worse a collission w/o flying around.

My thinking is that this is the best position for it to be easy to grab and out of the way at the same time.

Last weekend, I found out that although the fire ext small or large is very effective but it have very short burst life, more like 15 to 20 secs. The bigger it is, the more burst power it have, not longer.

My next door house, the gas oven caught a fire after the owner left for shopping, forgot to shut off the gas. I could smell and noticed the black and white smoke coming out of the kictken door.

I grabbed the compact fire ext. from my truck and went over to this door. The black dense smoke is already filling up the upper part of the room so I bended down and saw the flame shooting out of the gas oven even it is closed.

I applied the white powder on the gas on/off becuase I didnt want to burn my hand when I turned off the gas. I also applied white powder on the oven handle to cool off so I can open it a bit, killing the source of fire, the flameable cassrole.

But by the time the oven door was opened, it turned out my compact fire exh is already empty. I ran back to my garage and pick up a larger fire exh. Again I had to cool off the oven handle then killed the source of fire which take time due to intense heat. Once the fire stopped "coming back", my second fire exh ran dry right away.

So yes, I would recommended a compact fire exh next to the driver seat for quick response but I would have a second large one in the back cargo, as a last resort.

Regards,

Sheeesh Jay...it's been a lively time for you the last week or two. What with the Starbucks calamity and now you come to the rescue for your neighbors! Time for a couple of nice cold brews?!

OK, after some testing it looks like I'll mouint the big Mag light in front of the drivers seat on the floor and then the fire ext same place on the passenger side. I think I'll use these http://www.endroad.com/page/page/675042.htm to hold them in place

I mounted mine to the wall in the cargo area. See pic for location.

I stuffed a small one in the driver door pocket and a big one in the rear attached to the ARB fridge........with a bungy(lazy)

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering how those clamps worked out, if you ended up using them. Anyone else have any suggestions/ideas on mounting a fire extinguisher in the Hundy?

SUPER QUICK FIST - 2 ½? to 9?

I just got my Quick Fist Clamps yesterday. I have a fire extinguisher mounting solution that I will document tonight here...stay tuned.

Mine's easily accessible and secure mounted to the top of my sub-woofer.

Hoser - Who makes that mount and how bid of a cylinder will it fit?

You wouldn't - on the open market at least - so most will likely use something like FM200, inergen, etc.

The mount is from DaliRacing and it was designed for the Acura NSX. But it is a pretty simple mount that just bolts down using the front seat bolts. Looks easy to fab up. The extinguisher bracket is the one specific to the extinguisher so the mount can accommodate any extinguisher that will fit in the space.

The halon extinguisher is sold by H3R and can still be purchased though they are not cheap. It is legal for sale because it is recycled Halon. Once discharged, the extinguisher can again be refilled with recycled halon. I chose Halon over dry chemical because my NSX is mostly made of aluminum and the agent in a dry chem extinguisher is highly corrosive to aluminum and electrical connectors. The size is smaller than I'd like but there's not a lot of room to store a larger extinguisher in that car.

You can score new, old stock Halon extinguishers on eBay for a reasonable price.
