Objective: A securely mounted, easily accessible, on-board fire extinguisher.

Considerations: Fire extinguisher mounting must 1) not interfere with normal use of the driver or passenger seats; 2) have minimal negative impact to the limited cargo area behind the third row; 3) be securely mounted; 4) be easily accessible; and 5) allow for the quick removal of the fire extinguisher in an emergency.

Materials:

(2) 3" Quick Fist Clamps from End of the Road
(2) M6-1.00 65mm bolts
(2) M6 washers
(4) M6 nuts
(1) First Alert Fire Extinguisher

I think the images are self-explanatory, but if anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Mounting on the third row seat. Good idea!

Comic book panels to illustrate for Cruiserheads. Brilliant idea!

That is a good mounting spot and great write up. I like the quick fist clamps, but I always have my third row seats out (dog and misc s***). I wonder if they would be able to be mounted to the right or left post by the rear hatch window?? I'll have to see.

Nice write up... definitely an interesting spot. :grinpimp:

Unfortunately it wouldn't work for me. We find the third row quite useful, but because we find them so useful it would almost always be in the down position and in the way of gear...

Very Nice! I like the pictures. Being an engineer, I speak photo!

nice idea ....

but you really need that handle to carry the heavy seat when ever you remove it..

I bet you could mount it with a little longer bolt and trim the mount to fit right over the handle.

Reviving an old thread and am seeking some input.

I've had a fire extinguisher in the vehicle for a number of years, but never found a really good place to mount it with which I was comfortable.

So after I saw @odtseuss build thread (h/t) and how he mounted it up on the grab handle in the rear I thought that could be a good place.

Here's an image of the location.

Tonight, I decided to remove the rear grab handles on both sides to see what would work. Here's the driver's side:

Not a good image, but thought that adding a couple Quick Fist clamps in this location (DS) could secure a 2.5 lb - maybe even a 5 lb - fire extinguisher. This looks to be a better location than the PS since it faces inward towards the cabin and the PS faces down. Placing an extinguisher there looks like it would be too close to the glass.

Has anyone tried this before? Any thoughts on location - good, bad, or ugly?

^^^ I see that I'm not the only one that left the seatbelts on when installing drawers. I like the paper towel holder, where did you get it?

^ That's an image from @odtseuss thread - nice setup if you ask me! Lots of nice touches.

Quick Fist clamps were used all around. These things are awesome and none of them have failed me yet!

TheForger - that's a brilliant location for recovery gear esp when it can be cleaned before being installed back after use. What's the wire mesh in your pic, how's it mounted to the roof?

Nice setup @TheForger !

Yea, that's my main concern @DomSmith - thinking a different type of mount there might work better, something a little more "secure".

@whitenoise The wire mesh is 1/4" steel in a 3" x 3" format that I purchased from HERE The mounting points use the same OEM mounting locations as the rear grab handles so no addition holes were needed. Each bracket is made from a piece of angle iron with the passenger side bracket having a little bit more an extreme angle considering the contours of the headliner. A bit of trimming was needed on the mesh to prevent scratches in the headliner.

Thanks @TheForger , this is a great idea I will likely steal. Very simple and elegant solution to cargo containment in addition to storage!

I love it and it does free up cargo space. There is about 3" of clearance between the rack and roof headliner so I can throw beach towels and my seat covers up there, among other things. Also does not obstruct the view out of my rearview mirror.
