I'll believe it when I see it. The other articles I have seen on this subject show a fugly Toyota concept vehicle that looks like a cross between a Jeep Patriot and a Pontiac Aztec.

Fingers crossed for solid axles and something that doesn't look like it was designed by people that have never seen a car before.

Wow, that is a very apt description of what they offered...... well done.

Having never driven an FJ Cruiser, how was the truck's capability out of the box compared to the 80 and 100 series?

I bought an 07 new, added 3" lift, 33" KM2s bumpers front and rear, sliders and full skids. Beat the crap out of that ruck on class 4 trails and it brought me home each time, once in front wheel drive. The thing that finally killed it for me was visibility issues and suicide doors.

Yep, test drove one the month they arrived at the dealership and was very underwhelmed with exactly what Stan grew frustrated by.....ended up buying a '98 LX470 and drove it for almost 10 years until Marshall (Trollhole) bought it for his wife about 3 years ago. I tend to be content with our newest vehicle being 1 generation older than what's brand new now. Looking forward to moving into a 200 series in a few years although I don't want to part with anything in the fold.....probably will require one of those conversations that @pkniland referred to in the For Sale/Wanted thread!

25k.

Solid axles. Diff locks and removable roof. Manual tranny and ac.

Come on Toyota.

They will not catch the wrangler But at least they can give it a go before people stop buying cars all together and take golf carts everywhere.

All they need to do is bring back the MWB 70 series, live axles, removable top, diesel options, easy peasy:meh:

Unfortunately, they won’t.

It’ll be another FJC-esque truck or some such nonsense. Think that FJ-X concept abortion that came with all the tech goodies and a blankie:meh:

And certainly no diesel, because despite all evidence to the contrary, the US has no market for a diesel.

I drove the GRJ-79 dual cab for a bit when in Japan, the V6 wasn't all that bad a motor for that truck:meh:

I too would like to see them bring the 1VD motor to this shore. I can pretty much guarantee that's not happening though. If anything, they'll do some sort of an electric motor assist to get a better crawl ratio...Or they'll just slap crawl control on it.

There are easily 200 options on the j**p. Engine, motor, long wheel, short wheel base, colors tops, etc, etc. The fjc did not hit the mark however the 4runner did. If they want to compete they will have to offer some options and toyota is not about options. J**p starts a $26k to who knows who much (i didnt want to build me one because it was going to say “get a Toyota, we dont have what you want”). So, if they come out with a subaru type of crossover. They will piss us all off but i wonder what percentage of LC followers do they want to target. We are a very small percentage of the market and to my knowledge no one on the this club has gone and buy a brand new landcruiser of the floor room. (Our love doesnt go that far $90k +). I see a crossover in the future or a element type of truck. I really hope i am wrong

I hear $90K and I think . . sell the Prius . . ..two more LX . . and lots of upgrades! :)

Sheee-ittt, the new JL actually sounds pretty good. Aisin transmission? Diesel option!

First Drive: 2018 Wrangler Rubicon JL

Should be ready to unload the Caravan by then and trade it in on one, as Toyotas option (if they even will do one) will probably suck I'm sad to say.

I've always owned Jeeps until recently (currently having a FJ60 built). Jeeps are great except for the poor engine/build quality (haha). If Toyota came out with a high quality rival (with removable doors/roof) they would take huge mkt share from Jeep. I simply cannot understand their logic
