Finally... my very own '94 FZJ80

The owner lived up in Los Angeles. It was a bee-atch, getting it checked out and paid for during the work week.

I live in the North Park area of San Diego. Autotrader was my main source for Cruisers.
Also went through Craigslist.

The yellow/orange you see are the Bilsteins on all four corners. PO invested a little in components, but mainly in maintenance. PO kept good thorough records.

Excellent Find!

"First order of business: Replace the tires!"

Second order: Take of the grill guard.

Wow, great mileage for an LA based truck! And I thought I was fairly low for a '94 with 136K. I second Dan's opinion about the wife - stuuuuuuppppiiiiiiiiddd!!!

Congrats!!

Even before tires or the grillguard I'd remove the rear taillight guards.

I'd probably paid that for that rig. Condition is more important than anything in determining value.

Grill and tail light guards off last night. Now pricing ARB and Slee bumpers.

Also looking for decent local price on LT295/75 R16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. From what I read so far on the forum... they'll fit stock suspension with no lift and fully loaded-weighed down, correct? Can someone chime in and reconfirm.

roger-dodger.

Yeah! Thanks! Now that I have the choice of tires out of the way. Gotta find a good sale. Cash is going quick.

Next question: Where can I possbily find a used ARB Bull Bar? Trying to avoid buying new... but if I must... where's a good place to start looking? Anyone know of a good place in Southern Cali?

Forgot to mention.... also took off the hood wind-dam thingy.

Nice truck!

They look to be the biggest tire to fit without modifications they just touch at full stuff, leaving a small mark on the wheelwell paint without rubbing any paint off.

did you look at BFG A/Ts tkos they come in 295s. Not sure about Nittos, a friend has a pair of street tires and suck!! I think BFGs ride better than the stock Michs LTX. Good on rocks and street, not so good on mud.
My local Sams club has a good deal on these right now, you should check it out.

Kevin,

Are they excessively noisey on road?

Ron,

Search tires, this topic has been discussed so many times. You will see everyone has their point of view. You will know more than you need about tires after reviewing these thread(s)Most use BFGs, some Wrangler MTRs and others Dunlap Geolanders.

305/70/16

The Nitto's have only been on for 5K miles, very happy with them so far. Quieter and smoother than my last two sets of BFG AT KO's and do very well offroad in desert rock/sandy terrain, no idea how they will do in mud, not much of it around here!

The hood bug guard thing...I woulda left on, but whateva...
It's seems to be pretty rare to find an ARB front bumper used. Unless you're VERY patient, I'd just pick one up new. Most ATs are going to be relatively quiet...as compared to MTs or MT/Rs :flipoff2:

cruiserdan, are you suggesting I go "305/70/16"?

I'll go with the Nitto Terra 295/75/16, unless convinced otherwise in the next week or so.

I second Dan's 305/70 comment. (33 X 12 inches).

Also - Nice rig!

Ron,

We know the 285/75x16 and the 305/70x16 will fit in the stock spare location. You want to check with someone running the 295's so you don't have any surprises.

The 305's are the same height (~33") as the 285's but they are over 1" wider. The additional width helps in most off-road situations. The narrower tyres are better in snow. Depends on what you plan for the truck.

Heck... I always like to take off to the desert where it's sandy and rocky. Then during the winter take it up to the local mountains to get some snowboarding and skiing in. Then of course the trails for some good ol' off road fun. Looking more for a solid all around. Can't forget it's my DD too.
Gotta be good for that too.

Knowing all this, then what do you all suggest? I'm still going with the Nitto's. Haven't been convinced away from them yet. Will definitely check the fit on the spare location though.

Mazel tov!
That is one fine looking rig.

The :princess: is in the market for one.
Hope we have the same kind of luck you had. :D

I'm not a fan of the wood dash, but I do like the offset of it to the darker portions.
