Thank you. I spent a ton of time working through how to make them as nice as possible. It paid off I think. I am building a jig this week to start building them to sell.

Outta here for the weekend. Just an overnighter over the hill into Reno and back... but still almost 100 miles of unimproved roads. Should be a nice little test, I've not actually towed it behind the 40 yet. I dragged it around town today, just to see how it tows, if there are any issues with the cruiser, ect. So far so good. Only thing that really sucks, is I can't see it at all, not even a little when pulling straight... other then that, I barely knew it was back there. The only real thing that I noticed was the transfer case and transmission whine a little louder going up hills.

Sweet weekend with the trailer. Had a major failure, the cheapo hitch broke. We fixed it pretty quickly though and were on our way again. Over 100 miles in the dirt, 220 total. I'm pooped but man it was a fun weekend.

Under $50 DIY 3-axis coupler
This is what I based it on... However the bushings were waaaay to thin so I used .25 wall DOM instead.
I had a trailer that was "outta sight" while pulling. I bought a couple of fiberglass poles at Home depot and mounted them on the two rear corners of the trailer. Made backing much easier.

I am hoping once it has a lid, and with it being a few few farther back, I will be able to see it now.
No progress this week. Paying work and a bunch of vehicle break downs has stopped my lid building.
Ford blew a tire, replaced those, then two days later had the tach sensor go out sending the transmission into limp mode. Fixed that.. a few days later the starter seized up, and on the way to buy a starter my car got a flat and had to have two tires replaced! What a week for vehicles! At least the cruiser is still reliable...

Its been a while since I did anything with the trailer, but we are going to Overland Expo in a week, and bought a RTT. Since we are driving the trailer almost 2000 miles round trip, I figured I should check out the wheel bearings and repack them. Well... they were gritty and bashed up, so I ended up replacing all the bearings, races, and seals and it was cheap peace of mind knowing it's all good. There are not too many things to mess up on a trailer, but it's amazing how often those few things are neglected.
Building a lid for the trailer this week so we can mount our new RTT. I will have the frame built in a day or two no problem, but I'm not sure if I'll have time to skin it before we leave... so if we do, cool, if not we'll bring a half finished lid on our trip.
I might have got a little too excited and upacked the tent in our living room.

LONG freakin' day today... and a major pain by myself trying to get it all tacked together. I got the frame all built though, and that was my goal for the day. Tomorrow I'm going to work on the hinges and latches. I found some FJ40 windshield latches that I will use to keep the old school cool feel of the trailer. Hopefully by the end of tomorrow it can open and close and latch and we can mount the RTT and make sure it's all working well. I might consider trying to get the skin done before the trip if tomorrow goes well. I'd really love to have it painted and pretty before Overland Expo. That and it would be nice to keep the dust and mud and water out.

Thanks. Yesterday marked exactly one year since I took it home, and I really love working on this trailer. It's just so fun to see it come to life and transform into what I have in my head. I can't wait to start the kitchen slide out next.

I had a pretty productive day today, but ran out of wire and didn't feel like driving into town to get more.. so I stopped a little short of my goal for today, but I am set up nicely for tomorrow to get it all finished up.
Hinges are almost done. A few more welds and they will be ready to go. Then the latches tomorrow, finish welding a few things... and a ton of clean up work. LOTS of sanding and blending and general clean up.
And finally looks like this. I cut off the extra at the top, and will cap them and continue the blending and sanding with them once they are capped. I'm really happy with the whole thing so far. They work great too! I will also drill and tap each one for grease fittings.

Well.. finished for now. I still need to skin in clearly, and I am adding two more bars lengthwise to support the skin. I am hoping to still add some gas struts if I can get some in time, but we are leaving Tuesday morning and I don't see that happening. I think I'll be using a 2x4 for this trip. lol. We got the tent on it tonight, and I'm happy with how it's going to work. Too dark for pictures by the time we finished mounting it, but I'll take a bunch tomorrow I'm sure. Best part... I can actually SEE the trailer in the mirrors of the cruiser now. lol.

Thank you. I got some gas struts today, 115lbs each hopefully is enough. I will be VERY surprised if two 115lbs struts don't hold it open. We'll put them on tomorrow, I will need help from my wife for that I think... this whole lid project would have been a LOT faster and easier with another set of hands.
