Finally got one locked!

Well after owning my 97 for over a year and 16,000 miles later, I finally found a locked one, which will replace the wifes terrible VW Jetta, in the shop more than on the road.

I do not post much, mainly read and learn and I have gone from being a 1/8 to a guy.

The brakes seem to be a little softer than the LC and supposedly the front pads are new?? Anyways I will begin working on the new owner maintenance list.

Congrats!
All mechanicals should be the same. Brakes should feel the same on both -- i.e. there should be no difference between the LX and LC as far as brakes are concerned.

So...are you going to give the wife the LC and build up the LX?


Interesting -- that's the same color as my wife's LX, but I notice that in 96 they didn't have the running boards and roof rack color match the body. Learn something new everyday...

No way MY wife would end up with the "locked" vehicle though, even if I had to swap axles, harness, switch, computer, etc...

Nice find and low mileage to boot! You did good.

Flush the brake system and put in new Valvoline synthetic brake fluid or another quality brake fluid. That might improve the brake feel.

Was currently researching that very thing. Being that I was a 1/8 guy, I have never done a bleed before, just on my mountain bike. So I am doing the research to get my ducks lined up.

Yes the build will be on the LX and will stay hers Wanted to build up the Toyota but could not justify doing so with an unlocked LC, not that a locked version is mandatory for my current needs but didn't want to sink in $$$$$ and then down the road wish I had a locked one and then regrete all the money spent.

Interesting. My wife has a 4Runner and wants a Jetta. I found a '97 LX450 with 60k miles and want to buy it for her. Anything you can tell me to keep her away from the Jetta would be appreciated.

The unbelievable cost of repairs on the jetta. Especially if it,s a diesel. My mech is just cringeing because ther are alot of people who have them here and he is getting repair and mainrtenance bulletins from Europe that are scary expensive. It seems that the cars are built in a way to get amazing fuel economy at the expense of longevity of some of the parts.

Change this into a VW rant!! We bought our Jetta for $14,000 then ended up with $8K plus in repairs, trany went out, along with the radiator, etc. Luckily we bought certified thus all expenses paid. But the turbo spooled up so slow and idled rough, etc.

Just like MTNRAT, said, they get good mileage. And look good and are cheap but Dirt Diggler run as fast as you can away from VW!!!!!!!!!!!! VW does not have their problems straighten out!!!!!!!!!

Anyways back to Land Cruisers. After a weekend of LX, it will take some getting used to the Richy Richy looks and comments about driving the Lexus. You just want to say "IT IS 10 YEARS OLD AND I GOT A GOOD DEAL AND DID NOT JUST PAY $50K FOR IT, PLUS IT HAS LOCKERS!" But since it is a Lexus people thing you are pretentious!! I do not like that.

I've owned 97' FZJ80 for the last couple of months and I had same soft brake

issue... and still not solved.... Let us know what you find.
