Then you'll be coming within a mile from me when you head down I-85, I'm in Auburn, AL and if you need to flex that new suspension, I got a 1 hour detour we can do :D It's not much but it's literally beside the interstate!

Thanks for the offer, but I left before checking the MUD...Drove right by ya I guess...

And some more...of course, these tracks were right off the highway in Mississippi...spotted them as I was driving by, took the next exit, made a right and another one and I was in backroad heaven for the next two hours.... :grinpimp:

I must say that the ride with these OME heavies is interesting.

1. When the back was weighed down, the truck handled great. Very easy to steer even at highway speeds on rough highway road (ie: I-65 sucks).

2. When not loaded down, the ride is rough with the tail end bouncing around. I haven't put the new castor correction bushings in yet as I wanted to get a data point as to how the handling was without them and then after the install. Also, I was short on time which made them not as important at this point. That's next on the list.

The only real problem I've found so far is that I get a clanky metal sound at low RPM's coming from roughly the mid-area of the truck. My assumption is that the u-joints might not like the lift...I'm going to be keeping on eye on that and maybe replace the u-joints up front with new ones...or maybe even a nice double carden from Slee... ;)

And of course, a major thanks to Bailey who worked all day at ULC and then came over at 10pm to help me install the lift. He mainly did most of the work on the first couple of springs/shocks....

He was nice enough to come over with his awesome 40 with the on-board air for the compressor...man, did that help or what...

Hey Dan--

Did it in my mother's garage...she wasn't too happy as we started at 10pm or so and was completely done by 130am...Dearborn never saw us!!
 
3-1/2 hours huh....not bad....

My order from Christo shipped on Friday (apparrently I ordered 30 minutes prior to the UPS pickup....and it still made it out that day!) Hope to be tossing on Thursday night - we'll see if my press is up to the bushing install or not...lol

3.5 hours with two people...though I'm sure if you ask Bailey, I was in the way most of the time... :rolleyes: He coulda probably done it in two if he was getting paid!! :flipoff2: ;)

Didn't have time for the bushing install really. I'm going to try to get around to it sometime in the next month or so...

You're gonna need all of a 20 ton press to get them in...

Baily, you are a smart cookie, but you don't quite need 20 ton press. A little less will still do the job so long as you have the press tool included with a purchase from slee. I just had my OME CC bushings pressed out and OEM pressed in.

I dunno, i may keep them just for future tweaking. Or, make me an offer. :)

I have pressed several sets with a 12 ton Astro press, it's not happy about doing it, groaning and popping, but gets the job done. Probably works due to rust free Arizona parts?
 
My plan is to take the front control arms off the rig and take it to my friendly local NAPA where they actually know a thing or two about pressing bushings in and out. They have a 40-ton press IIRC at my local one and the young dude working there is a Heep fan... (too bad--he's a really cool dude too).

Anyway, I'm going to take the arms into him, bring the FSM and bring the OME bushing instruction sheet and we are going to do it together. I think he is going to charge me about $10 and a 6er of :beer:

Not a bad deal.

Right now, I want to ride the rig a bit without the bushing correction and with a Toyota dealer done toe-in. I want to see what the results are.

Next month or whenever I get around to it I am going to get the OME's pressed in.

It was funny when i took my control arms to a local shop to get the bushings pressed, they guy asked "what are those things off of, a John Deere tractor or something? Man they look heavyduty" I just smiled and said they are from an agricultural grade Toyota Land Cruiser with a huge cheesey grin on my face.

I had a similar plan with waiting on the bushings until I drove it with the stock bushings for a few days. It was wandering like crazy and not much fun to drive on the road.

Hey Charlie--

These are the OME heavies and I have driven them on about 2000 highway miles over the past four days.

It's really not that bad, but from what I have read OME bushings really do make a whole lotta difference. I just wanted to get myself some data points so when I do install the bushings, I will know from where I started.

So far, loaded down in the rear is the best way to drive this particular set-up. Driving around town today with nothing really in the rear except for my dog and some tools, I could really feel the difference...much more difficult to drive and bouncy in the rear.

I'll probably post up my pre/post pics and report in the next month or two.
