What are the easiest ways you guys have found for refilling the transmission with oil? The t-case is easy enough, but the tranny gave me a headache last time I did it. This is related to my flood thread. Thanks.

I had access to a 30 gal drum with a siphon pump and a curved nozzle. Plus it was up on a
rack. Made it really easy. :D

On my old 40 I pulled the trans hump and used a flexible funnel. Never pulled the carpet in
my 60, so don't know if the hump is easily removed or would give easy access to the fill
plug.

A siphon pump like you can get at a tool shop is probably going to be the best way for you.
Just don't get a cheap plastic one. Used one on a friend's Wagoneer and it didn't last long
enough to fill his transfer case.

Cool. Thanks, HJ60. I guess a siphon pump would be the way to go.

siphon pump is prob the best.... but ive used water bottle and takin the top off the gear oil filled the water bottle up and squirt er in...the top from the gear oil (lil nipple top) screws right on...

lowtide... cool. I can give that a shot, too.

good to know this, since this was my project this weekend, but now i have to go to work all weekend because of this fawkin hurricane!

I like the water bottle system over the hand pump

One of the best things I've ever bought recently is one of those pump thingys that sits on top of a 5 gallon bucket of gear oil. No more messing with nasty drippy bottles of stinky lube for me. Stick the nozzle in the fill hole, pump the handle, no muss no fuss. I bought mine at NAPA, but you can find them all over.

a big syringe for mixing 2 stroke oil also works pretty good. it takes more work than a pump and that is the route i plan to take next time i change the gear oil, but if you have one of those huge syringes handy it'll work.

I like those as well. Wow, those are good suggestions.

oil pump

Go to local auto parts store get a pump that fits a 5gal. bucket of oil, about 30-40 bucks. Get the metal one, got mine at Advance auto. Save a lot of headaches.

i changed out the transfer and tranny gear oil yesterday. can you say PITA? i did it with a squirt bottle. it wasn't too bad doing the transfer, but is there an easy way to get to the tranny fill plug? it points upward, so it is hard to get the bottle in a posiition to fill it up.
by the end of it all, i was covered in gear oil. i busted the backs of both of my hands getting the drain plugs out too. i don't think the gear oil was ever changed, but it came out looking good when i drained it. only thing i found was some metal shavings, very small, on the backsides of each plug. i now have to do the diffs....couldn't get to the plugs without jackstands :(

I just put allen head drain/fill plugs in.. much easier to get on and off.(no more busted hands)might want to get em before ya change the diffs.

my hands thank you for the tip :D

the back of my right hand is still swollen and will probably be black and blue tomorrow, but it is fun battle scar to have :)
