Is it not true that GENERALLY you don't want hardened/Longfield/Nitro axles in a daily driven axle?
Yes-ish. The chrome moly (not sure I am spelling properly) is stated to be stronger breakage wise, but softer.

I have RCV axles in my 80 but only about 10,000 miles on em. I am curious to see how they last

Here are some measurements, they were spares that came with an Aussie hjz75 I imported a few years ago. So I believe they are 70 series, but not sure.

I’ve got a NOS 42312-60043 on my shelf, still wrapped in Toyota plastic with part number tag.
$200 plus shipping.

Seeing this on Amayama and am hoping for some clarification re: 70 series shafts.
I am told that the 70 series (LH) long shaft is: 42312-60043
and that the 60 and 70 series share a short side part number.
Can anyone chime in on the differences in the part numbers below?

I measured my 70 series long side shaft today....

Running the tape measure from the OUTER face of the flange to the end of the splines I get 36 1/4"

From the INNER side of the flange (flat part) to the end of the splines I get 35 3/4"

Thoughts?

FYI My axle has factory disk brakes.... does that matter?

35 3/4 is correct for the long side, did you measured the short side? My measurements are from the flat mating surface( inner flange) to the end of the splines.

@woytovich

What did you end up with (if any) for your 60 FF spare axles ?

Were you able to verify is the short-side is shared between 60 and 70 series?

In the market for a pair of spares.

Thanks!
