Meet at the Safeway on Nevada ( 1920 S. Nevada Ave. ) at 8:00 am. Leave about 8:30. We will travel down 115 to Penrose to meet up with the rest of the group in the back parking lot of Coyote Coffee Den ( Coyote Coffee Cafe – Coyote Coffee Cafe proudly serves Upstate SC the best in coffee, smoothies, protein shakes, sandwiches, bagels and more. - https://www.coyotecoffeecafe.com/ ) arrive at 9:00 leave at 9:15 and then drive Phantom Canyon to Victor, view the Ice Carving Festival in Cripple Creek , eat lunch from street vendors (or bring you own) . Drive Shelf Road South to Canon City. Optional is to drive in the Banks, Seep Springs etc. as time and motivation permits. The location and date is set to allow the group to spend time at the middle of the day in Cripple Creek and see the Ice Carving Competition.

Remember to bring a GMRS radio (we use channel 5-0), recovery gear, winter clothes, tire chains, coffee and snack or lunch.

Planning to join. How necessary are chains?

Also planning to join. I plan to camp somewhere in the Phantom Canyon/Penrose/Canon City area Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights and meet ya'll at Coyote Coffee Saturday morning.

Yes, you can. We would love to have you come with us. Just show up at one of the two meeting places that are described in the thread and we will meet up with you. If you meet at the Safeway, as described, we meet in the east parking lot, the one that faces Nevada Avenue. If you meet at coyote’s coffee Den in Penrose, meet in the back parking lot. You’ll see at least an 80 and a couple of 100 series at coyotes.

I don't know how many rigs are planning on meeting at the Safeway. Most of the group will be meeting at the back parking lot at Coyote in Penrose. If you do meet at Safeway and no one shows up by 8:30, you are it. Please head on down to Coyote and meet us in the back. If you are planning on meeting at the Safeway send me a PM so I can make sure that we don't leave Coyote before you get there.

I have 5 coworkers interested in going. Is that too much?

We've had 10-12 rigs on this run in the past...should not be a problem. It does require some additional foresight for pull-offs, parking, and such. Keep a good interval between rigs (on the road and on the trail). Some years ago, we had 17 rigs on a trail ride, so we broke it down to two groups.

What is the usual return time for this trip?

We should be back to the south end of shelf Road by 3 o’clock, or 4 o’clock, latest. Some of us will probably run one or two more trails while we’re down there and maybe drive over to skyline Drive west of Canon City, as well. If anyone is in a hurry to get back, they can drive home directly from cripple Creek or can go ahead down the shelf road ahead of the group.
