It might be on a slight angle, I'll try some skinny washers to build it up straight if I have to. Or notch the washer some. Looks like the hub of the water pump will fit inside the tapered clutch hub 👍

What's the functional difference between a fan clutch for an automatic trans and the type for a manual trans? Different engagement rates at different shaft speeds?

Sorry, just seeing this.

I don’t have exact specs at hand but generally the auto variant uses a higher CST, different engagement, larger fan or some combo.

I see FAN58030 on cruiser outfitters but not cruiserteq. Is it no longer available?
Also I really appreciate this guide you made.

Great question, likely just waiting to be added. Last I checked we are in the 25% range of parts on CruiserTeq.com but making headway :D

I'll check on the FAN58030

Great news, we have plenty of them here. They may have been out-of-stock when Bryce pulled stock to add them to the ecom site. We are working to fill many of those holes as time allows. He's off today so I put it square in the middle of his desk to add :D

You can call our sales team a call (801-563-1277), they can easily get it shipped today!

@cruiseroutfit

Kurt, I find myself looking through another of your BJ tech posts, thanks for sharing this information that few people would be in a position to have access to.

I wonder, have you got to hand the fitted height of EGW59185/6/7 with FAN58012 and a large pattern (95 mm?) fan blade?

I am restoring a 1989 BJ60 with a direct drive fan and am considering if there is an option to put a fan clutch in. My BJ60 is an unusual general market model with the 3Bii (the only one to have this engine) and they were all direct drive.

Thanks

EO

I don't have that measurement but we sure can. Shoot our parts team an email. Info@cruiseroutfitters.com

Thanks Kurt, will do!

BTW, did you ever get anywhere sourcing the 3Bii/late type H55F input shaft 33311-60111? Last I heard, JF still did not have enough interest to put it into production...

It's an ongoing project, nothing available for retail yet.

For those of us with 08/1988+ B engines (3Bii, 14B*, 15B* but not 13B*), a comparison of direct drive vs. fan clutch type setups:

1000021050.jpg

On the left, from a 1989 BJ60 with a 3Bii, which is:

Water pump 59176
Pulley 56070
Spacer
Fan 47010

On the right, from a 1994/5 Megacruiser

Water pump 59185 (which supersedes to 59187)
I have omitted the pulley, 58080 as it is dual belt and not a good comparison with the single belt Land Cruiser setup (and I don't have a LC pulley yet).
No spacer
Fan clutch 58050
Fan 41090

The Megacruiser setup is basically the same as the 1988+ BJ70, 73 and 75 (not BJ71 or 74) except that the LC uses a single belt pulley, fan clutch 58012 and fan 41070 which is about 41 cm in diameter compared to the Megacruiser's 43 cm diamter fan.

The only uncertainty I have is the differnce in height between the LC and Megacruiser fan clutches, but as you can see, the Megacruiser setup has the fan at about the same distance from the engine as the BJ60 direct drive setup.

So, you can choose one setup or another, but none of the hardware (water pump, pulley or fan) crosses over.

As I live in the tropics where the AC is needed to keep the car dry inside, I am planning to run initially with the direct drive setup, but when moving to Europe with cooler temperatures and long motorway drives, the screaming fan will probably make me switch to a fan clutch setup.
