I'm replacing the belts on my 89 62 and am having problems w the first or ac belt (closest to the engine). I'm not sure if I got the right belt. The tensioner seems to top out before the belt is tight. I turn the tensioner and the belt gets tighter and tighter, but before it tightens the acorn nut on top of the bolt pops off. I'm thinking the belt is too long so the idler is going to it's max and then starts to loosen the acorn nut. Does this make sense?

Are you using Toyota belts?

No, I bought Napa. I've never had problems w their stuff, but this belt has got to be too long. I'm taking it back today and have been trying to find the stock belt lengths. I'll try Toyota if they're open today.

I hate 3FE belts......

Keep that truck all Toyota and you'll have fewer issues.

Changing belts on that thing is tough. I've done it. Lots of pain!

Best method is to keep old belts laying around and compare initially to make sure the length is about the same. Verify belt length.

I can't comment on belt install on a 62, but 60s are a breeze.

If you have the fan shroud mod done you can unbolt the top half and easily get the belts on and off. It's not hard for me on my FJ62. Just installed a new alternator and moving belts around was easy.
