Bump !! - this thread needs attention
on previous pic of my belts did the PO not get the correct belt because it does not go to that third point at the WP?

thx for quick answer

So ! ,

Lookie lookie , lookie what we have here ..................

One of My all time Favorite Uses of :

Alternative Toyota Genuine Parts Engineering Mindset Approach Applications
,

and a Killer Kool one at That !

its a 83/08 - 87/08 AL25LG-ZWFDCA attempted Pump Install / Conversion / Update

- from what i can see from @Kschep 's Photos Posted above , we have a Slightly miss-installed

/ miss-alighned 1985 AL25 Tercel 4x4 Wagon Power Steering Pump Conversion Update ,

- a bit sloppy install by the PO , but we should be able to make quick work of the needed corrections

prior to @Kschep going to his Local TOYOTA Dealership parts Dept. , & simply ordering

the Correct Size needed OEM parts maker Mitsubishi BANDO , V-Belt necessary to make it all happen

for him ...........

- Step #1 remove the old drive belt , DO NOT CUT it OFF !

- Step #2 , Remove pulley on Pump and simply Flip it over and Re-install backwards

- step #3 Loosen the Existing Landcruiser smog pump bracket Under the Moter Mount Dog Leg and ,

Further Align the AL25 Pump Pulley Groove By Eye to the FJ40 inner crank Pulley Groove

- Step #4 Order the correct OEM TOYOTA Drive belt , using the Belt Chart on Various parts Microfiche

- If your Local Dealer parts Dept. Counter Person has No Clue , then use Static paricute Cord ,

and Obtain the Needed Belt Diameter Yourself ,

- Find Your Local BANDO Aftermarket Drive Belt Dealer , and Buy the Closest possible size in-stock

- DO NOT Buy any other Brand Drive Belt , especially and For example :

the RUBBISH Elclin Line @ NAPA , if you do skimp on this step you will Be Sorry very soon

- Install Correct size BANDO Belt , adjust Belt tension to FSM Spec's , test fire 2F engine in place

for a few seconds , turn off , Re-check belt tension , Readjust as necessary

- If your Pully's are still slightly miss-alighned , but Not and should Not be Cock-Eyed at this

point ? , add shims / washers to the Pump Pivot Bolt as needed to bring pulley faces back and

forth to perfect harmony and Plumb , level , & Square type Mindset to each other ...............

- I have preformed and installed this TEq needed Creative Solutions Parts Update Many times in my life

to both my own Trucks and My shop client's as well , its Time Tested and pretty much Bomb Proof

Im my opinion

- i keep 3-4 Complete Conversion Kits on hand at all times , because you never know when

the need for one will arise ,

- The whole idea here , i should have mentioned before step # 1 , is for Pre- 1/79 2F 's
with out the

3 Pre-Drilled / Threaded
Cylinder head Pump Bracket Mounting holes above on Driver Side

Engine Flat Spot , to have the Same GOD givin right to have the closest thing to a OEM Optional

Power Steering System as possible , while incorporation of a MINI Truck Power Box as well

for a Symphony of JDM engineering End Product Results .....................
IMO

- theirs a bit more Trade-Kraft to the conversion then my Ramble-On above Mentions to be clear

, but my Focus was on the Needed Corrections for @Kschep to get him back up and Running based on

my past experience with this big Picture , and everything and anything i could Conclude
? from his

Very Well Documented and Clear Crisp Photos he Posted .......................:)

i hope this helps ........

also , maybe @4Cruisers has some additional input here , as he taught me most everything

i needed to know , shared Photos's , to make a go of my first Conversion so long ago it seams

Thanks Brother ! 😃

I did this type of conversion on both of my FJ40s with '76 2F engines. The stock smog pump brackets from F and 2F engines both work equally well - whatever you have in hand. A trip to the hardware store will get you sleeves/spacers/etc. for securing the Tercel pump to the bracket. Custom PS gearbox pedestals are needed, they can be sourced from a couple of places. For the PS pump adjusting bracket I used a '84 Toyota Cressida adjusting bracket that I had to grind a small amount from to clear the belt. So it's pretty much an all-Toyota upgrade. Works well for tires that aren't too big - probably no greater than a 33" tall skinny tire. And you can still get Tercel PS pump rebuild kits.

Remember part#s Supersede back and Forth for more reasons then i care ti explain right now ,

but this should help get further along Towards Mitsubishi BANDO Zen.....

WOW 😳 I had no idea ... so glad for this forum ... so I need to do some work

Help me orient myself —- so in my pics not only is the belt off line and needs that adjustment but also I’m supposed to flip it around...I’ll need some kind of spacer so it can stick out enough for belt alignment. Any way to explain how I orient it after taking it off? Or basically how it should look sitting in there - thx

Check to see if your pulley is like the one on my FJ40 conversions, the photos below are from my '71 FJ40 with '76 2F and '84 Toyota 4WD Tercel pump. My pulley is different one side to the other. The first photo is straight on, showing proper belt alignment. The second photo shows the back of the pulley (as installed correctly, flipped as @ToyotaMatt indicated). The back of my pulley looks like the front of your pulley. The third photo shows the front of the pulley. Note that the (new) front of my pulley is flat - doesn't have the nipple. The (new) back of my pulley has the nipple. By flipping that pulley over you gain the extra distance from the face of the pump to the groove in the pulley. As Matt said, it looks like the PO forgot to flip the pulley over. It also looks like your pump is not mounted square - maybe the PO angled it slightly to get a better belt alignment on the pulley. BTW, that's an '84 Toyota Cressida adjusting bracket - doesn't look like your set-up has any kind of adjusting bracket.

Ya I’m definitely missing that adjusting bracket - also looks to me like the metal on mine looks broken off in some way - not sure else why that piece would be there in my pic (where in your pic the bracket it)

This is My First and Only AL25 i ever had the privilege of owning , she was a 1985 ,

and had a optional

Low range shifter stick of some kind as i Recall ?

It was the age of Kurt Cobain , and My hero's in Nirvana , jamming to Cassette tapes in the

Factory Double DIN all Digital mid 1980's Cressida Radio

i had managed to wire up correctly some how ?

She was then Off'd when driving got boring again ,

to use the slush fund to acquire another one of many 40's

Maybe I should just acquire a new Tercel pump - hmm now the search is on - who to contact .. I got a couple in mind - anyone?

Several choices here:

The good news is that a remanufactured pump isn't very expensive. They don't come with reservoirs, but you can use your old one, with a new O-ring. And they don't come with pulleys, but you need to remove yours anyway to flip the pulley.

Ok awesome. I’m also thinking shoot if I’m doing this maybe I just do an upgrade and get a newer system unless that 84 system is preferred. So if there’s ideas about what else I could put in it’s place I’m all ears. But I think 84 Tercel sounds easy

It's really straightforward. As long as you can still get a remanufactured pump (and/or an OEM rebuild kit) and a proper belt there should be no problem with the parts being from a mid-'80s vintage Toyota. My '71 has had this set-up for almost 20 years and my '76 for five years.

Ok well I think I’ll first try to flip mine around but sine the metal looks broken (is broken) I’m thinking I’ll just order new and use my old pulley and switch it around of course.
shoot and I already ordered belts - let’s all pray one time for a magical fit once switch is made :)

I scrounged mine from a pick-n-pull (both FJ40s) - I thought they were from a mid-'80s Cressida, but I can't find that bracket in the online parts catalog. At first I used an adjusting bracket off of a Ford, don't remember which model.

Let’s say I wanted to go another route other than the Tercel and wanted something more new - what are some of the other options I have
