A couple months ago, I picked up my first Land Cruiser — a 1989 FJ62 automatic with 150k miles. I paid $2,800 for it because of the condition… and when I say rusty, I mean beyond saving. The frame is still solid, but the body is toast.

My plan from the start was to find a clean rolling chassis to swap my drivetrain into and possibly upgrade to an H55F manual while I’m at it. I’ve now found a solid chassis down in LA listed at $7,500, and I’m wondering if that’s a fair price. Here’s the link: 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 – Inland Empire Craigslist

Not that I plan on selling, but I’m curious — if I do the swap, what would a clean rig with my drivetrain be worth? I’ll also be parting out as much as I can from my current FJ62 to offset the cost of the new chassis.

P.S. Ignore the cheap rattle-can hood — I have a full set of doors, hatch, tailgate, and a new hood (all in rough shape) that I’m slowly swapping over to my rig.

I personally think $7,500 is a bit steep for just the chassis, but on the other hand if you can have a well sorted, relatively rust free FJ62 with a H55F for less than $15k than you're doing pretty well.

It is worth noting that the 3FE motor mount brackets have already been cut off the frame. Not sure how easy it would be to either cut yours off or find someone who already has. So this wouldn't be exactly an easy drop in your drivetrain and be good to go project.

I think I could weld the old ones on. Thanks for pointing that out I didn't even notice that
