A couple months ago, I picked up my first Land Cruiser — a 1989 FJ62 automatic with 150k miles. I paid $2,800 for it because of the condition… and when I say rusty, I mean beyond saving. The frame is still solid, but the body is toast.
My plan from the start was to find a clean rolling chassis to swap my drivetrain into and possibly upgrade to an H55F manual while I’m at it. I’ve now found a solid chassis down in LA listed at $7,500, and I’m wondering if that’s a fair price. Here’s the link: 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 – Inland Empire Craigslist
Not that I plan on selling, but I’m curious — if I do the swap, what would a clean rig with my drivetrain be worth? I’ll also be parting out as much as I can from my current FJ62 to offset the cost of the new chassis.
P.S. Ignore the cheap rattle-can hood — I have a full set of doors, hatch, tailgate, and a new hood (all in rough shape) that I’m slowly swapping over to my rig.
