I’m thinking about fixing some rust on my cruiser, but my freeborn red is pretty faded. I would get a paint shop to mix colors, but I don’t know how the repainted area would fade differently than the actual body. I don’t want to repaint the whole truck, but I also want to get rid of some rust. Should I color match, or is that a bad idea for the long run?

Try some rubbing compound or some other product that rejuvenates your existing paint, like nu-finish,etc. Start with the less evasive process and work yourself up to what works best. Start in a small spot 1st. I'd bet you could get that back to a nice shine and bring it back close to the original color of the paint.

I asked a similar question a while back.
The answer I got made a lot of sense.

Faded and heavily oxidized paint can often be restored (to a point). Whether it's possible depends on a few factors including your paint's color. But, often it simply comes down to the condition of the clear coat finish. Restoration is only doable up to the point where clear coat failure begins (blotchy white areas).
