My pump started whining after started replacement. It's a irritatingly high pitched whine like a dog whistle.
I hardwired the hewett bypass and haven't heard it since. One is the pump, forward, and the rear thing closest to harness is a control valve or switching valve thing I believe.
The block off plates are kind of a bitch, but not to hard to install. Hewett is pretty decent, they sent me an extra plate for free when I lost one. They're pretty proud of those things.
I found it later down by the lower control arm. But I can't get it out from where it's stuck.
-no I don't believe the pump is serviceable. The wheel gets damaged, so I've read. You have to take it out to replace the starter, in doing so some of those connector hoses will probably split open. Local parts stores have hose to match ID. (close enough)

If you spray water under the intake, down below the throttle butterfly for instance, it will collect in the valley. Mine was pretty clean under the air pump and stuff. The gunk on the outside is just 10 years of texas dirt, sand, leaves, spilled oil. Pretty nasty. It's an easy spot for things to collect.

-The inside of my intake plastic was 100% with black goo.
I didn't think much of it, there's lots of vac lines on that way too big air filter housing baffle chamber, air tube to butterfly thing. Mostly I think heat and PCV pulling garbage in.
That was a long day for me, no one here talks about taking off the plastic intake. I missed two nuts and took and hour to figure that out. BUT, if I took it off again it would take 20 minutes. All that and the started and two trips to autozone for hoses and clamps took me 8 hours.
In this pic you can see the new hose and clamp, new starter, broken yellow plastic wire holder bracket thing.
I hated myself for breaking that wire holder.

Thanks for the reply. The "rear thing closest to harness is a control valve or "switching valve thing" must have made the starter bolts even hard than we see on none VVti to get at.

NMUZJ100 - 1998 LC100 Repair Manual, vol 1 and 2, A343 Automatic transmission manual Pub Num. RM479U, and a Max Ellerly Toyota Land Cruiser manual that covers the 100
Hey there. Just curious if your copies of the 1998 manuals are digital? If so, I'd love to get a copy. Just joined the 1998 LC100 club so still trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks mate.

The link in the first post does not work for me, anyone else have a problem?

The first two links don't work (unless you create an account and log in to the guest site) but the third link to the individual chapters does work. Like 2001LC says, the 07 has quite a few updates...

@Dwight S
Thank you so much for fixing up the original 2004 FSM.
That must have taken a fair bit of time.

The original has so many duplicated pages and the ordering is so messed up, I found it quite frustrating.
I did find another "complete" version on the web that was a single PDF, which ran to nearly 6000 pages I think...

Your revised version comes in at 3071 pages.
Yours is complete, so half of the other one is just duplicated pages, virtually every page is duplicated somewhere.

I'll now just use your "revised edition".
Thanks, much appreciated!

@jerryb Is it the Air Pump Assembly that your heard whining and that most are seeing go bad when this system fails?

Do you think working in that area may have disturbed the pump leading to issue earlier than it may have happened?

I read the thread on this issue sometime ago and wondered then, why not just repair. It seem the guy's installing the kits have the mechanical skills to do either! I did see somewhere it a $3k job at Dealer shop, but those using Dealer shop wouldn't install kit DIY either.

On a side note; I just pulled another VVti intake manifold. I'm finding excessive oil from intake gasket leak again. Not as bad as last one I did a few moths ago. But still this makes my glad I'm replacing intake gasket again.

I don't think most people would want to go after that repair themselves. To us as a group, it's not that hard, but to the general public out there going to dealer kills it for them. So there's your 2-300 dollar fix. I think it's a 800 dollar dealer job, and the pump is 400? not sure. The impeller with an open intake kills it. Two rubber hoses in a seriously hot area also.
I don't think any previous work in that area would do anything. Unless you left a towel down there to get sucked up.
If I knew mine was bad when I had the manifold off I would have bought, taken apart and fixed, or replaced it when I had it off the first time. I didn't know. I installed the bypass AFTER I replaced the starter. You can find the motor for less money than the bypass I'm pretty sure. I think the impeller is replaceable also. Don't quote me, I just looked for these a second ago.

The first two links in the OP's first post no longer work, but fortunately the OP was wise, and provided an "Alternate download site"
which still works, as of today.

100 series Land Cruiser FSM (Field Service Manual) - TLC FAQ
You'll need to register on the site to get access to downloading files.

However, a better copy of the same FSM, with corrected page ordering, unlike the above, is still being shared by one of our generous members, who have probably spent hours sorting it out, and re doing it, here:

Its in Zip format.

From memory, its a far better copy of the original FSM, and is based on the efforts of those who released the first FSM in PDF format.
Thanks to both!

The original, mixed up page numbered version is easily available elsewhere, as well, of course, and is also for free, so, either way, there's no need to purchase it from some dodgy site that rips off commercial copyrighted material to make a profit.

Inside the zip file, each section, cooling, suspension, etc, is in a separate PDF, however the whole collection is also in the file named COMBINED.pdf.

So I am trying something new here and this will likely not work for a lot of people, However to have more than one place to access and download FSM's, I have opened a Telegram Messenger channel for all Toyota FSM's that I can find. You can access it here - Toyota FSM.

As said I think only ones that have "Telegram" messenger app will be able to browse through and download from this channel. I think this is a good way to back up FSM's in more than one place. Let me know if that works out.

Bump to increase the search-ability of the thread.

MUD standard search parameters only find threads with at least 5 replies. If you are having trouble finding something with search try adjusting that setting and if you like a thread comment to pad the thread post count to at least 5.

Service manual, Repair manual, Shop manual, Repair Guide

If someone could locate a Body Repair Manual and EWD and scan it that would be great. Probably a direct posting to MUD wouldn't work but getting it up somewhere would be nice.

I have the A343F Automatic Transmission Manual (No RM479U) and would be willing to send it to anyone interested in the project. It's 113 pages and is basically disassembly and reassembly only. No troubleshooting, diagnostics, testing or theory.

@NMuzj100 - Hey bud, can you please share the PDF for the A343F transmission? also any others transmission as well. I want to back them up on telegram. I appreciate it.

I have seen several people recently asking for a Factory Service Manual, I did a quick search and looked in the FAQ and noticed that the pdftown link is the one found predominately. Anthony L. had posted the link below previously. I am hoping that the search function picks up this thread title more readily. This is a direct download of the 2004 FSM which is almost universal for any other year 100 series. Enjoy. http://www.amoney.org/2004_LC_FSM.zip CLICK HERE FOR THE 2004 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 100 SERIES FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL
