Hey all,
I have seen some very old advertising material (crusty images below) with my FJ73 MWB FRP showing some chromed steel rims. I think they are 15x7 or so. The distinguishing feature is the 'original' rims seem to have sharper radius cutouts (the sharp wedge shaped holes and flatter spoke profile).
Currently on my rig it has a different and to me, more desirable set of 15x7 chrome toyota rims (Smooth Wedge, humped spoke) , (4x of them) and the spare is one of the Sharp Wedge.

Spare Rim, sharp wedge...

I have been on the hunt for a 5th Smooth Wedge rim to replace the spare Sharp Wedge.

I luckily have located a full set of 5x but the seller is saying they are 15x8! (only 5 hrs drive to get them but I'd hate to waste that time/fuel/money and would rather be trout fishing)

I am very much confuse. I think they may be HJ61 Sahara items which is fairly hard to locate here.

I thought to check, is there any documentation and part numbers that illustrate what rim is what. I cant really locate a definitive thread with factory wheel options (especially since they are on 60 series as well as 70 series)

And also is there any others searching for similar rims as I really dont need to fill my limited garage space with more wheels!

Hello,

15x7 will fit. 16x7 will fit as well.

These wheels are still available from Toyota but they are expensive.

FJBen that looks like a weapon of a ride. Perfect for venison harvesting!

From further research and buggering about, Ive come to the conclusion is I have been looking for the wrong year and model. They are not from the FJ73 at all.... they are from a 1HDT 80 series!

HDJ80 GLX 15x7.
No wonder Ive had trouble finding them as this model of cruiser is VERY expensive here in Aus.
Plus, there was a decent Alloy wheel option AND a 16x8 steel option that most purchasers went for at the time.

Part number is:
42601-35570-03
(FJ80,HDJ80,HZJ80..GX,VX 15X7JJ,TYPE B,)

Be careful because there are some OEM wheels that look the same but the specs are different between the 80 and the 70.

Good example of this is what the factory aluminum 15X7 -20 is on the HZJ77 and the 80 series has the same wheel look wise but the 80 series version is a +10 or something like that for the 7" width rim. I don't recall off the top of my head.

I don't think an 80 series wheel will work on a narrow nose 70 series without spacers. Probably a 1.5" spacer.

The part number (42601-35570-03) for the wheel above appears to be 80 series for the JDM/General/Europe market as well the 4runner for the North America market.

Hello,

x2.

80 Series wheels are not 15x7/16x7. They cannot fit in a 70 Series without spacers.

Wheel holes are different in shape, and the center has a different curvature.

Ahhhhh is see.... Thankyou fellas for your responses!
So much wisdom on this forum.

This now explains why there are spacers on my vehicle!
I thought it was just the previous custodian wanting more 'poke' out the side to give a more chunkier stance or extra stability.
This could also explain why the factory FJ73 LX type rim is still on the rear door wheel carrier. To mount one of these 80 series rims on the back door would likely need some sort of a spacer or additional nuts/extended studs etc.

From what I hear, there are mixed results with the legality/safety of spacers here in Aus. They look plenty solid enough, but now Im actually reconsidering my goals and final intentions with this rig.
