I did this install a couple years ago, but just posted facts in the cruiser registry so here's some pics:

It is the most invasive thing that I have yet done on "Cranny." I pulled the gas tank and cut the whole to replace it with a piece cut from an Australian FJ62. I purchased the seats from Specter Off-Road. When I cut the floor out my wife almost lost it, I think she finally realized what I was doing. The look on her face was priceless. When the seats are not being used, they fold to the sides. I work with High School Students, so the fact I can seat eight now is invaluable!

wow. I didn't even know that there were factory third row seats. It seems like the US got ripped off. We didn't get a five speed, we didn't get diesel, and now there are third row seats. Just kidding. Those are really cool though.

Looks great but how's the leg room back there?

Leg room and head room are not ideal, but because I work with Junior High and High School kids, and my son is still in a car seat its not a problem. I wouldn't want to sit back there...

They got the high roof too! Looks great, I've been thinking about doing a 3rd row, but I think you could only put small people/kids back there with the regular US roof.

Yep, they got the high roof. I just put kids back there, however I when I was doing the install i found a cruiser with 3rd row and a high roof. The high roof is not so high in the back...

I've did the exact same install in my HJ60. I also bought used 3rd row seats from Specter OffRoad.

Pretty cool. Are they pricey?

Theres a 60 on ebay right now out of CA that has the 3rd row in factory matching upholstery. The seats face the rear of the truck, kinda interesting.

facing the rear?...Sounds to me like they're just upholstered to match, and not an actually factory setup. I could be wrong, anyone know if Toyota had rear facing factory 3rd rows?

Surely there is a FAB'able option out there that is less expensive.........

I don't doubt that anyone with some talent could fab something pretty sweet, but the cool thing about paying the money in that SOR sells them with the floor panel cut out of a 62 with the factory mounting points. This way I could mount with all the right hardware, floorplates, mounting hardware, seatbelts etc. I feel much more comfortable knowing that everything is safe and will hold up if I'm fully loaded with passengers. My 2cents.

These factory third row seats with the 3 point belts look like the way to go, even at $500. What's the price of safety?

I installed a couple of 60 series seats in the rear of one of my FJ60s by installing plates under the floor and bolting through to nuts welded on the plates. For seatbelts I used an RJS setup, which had a lap belt and two vertical belts. I never was satisfied with the belting arrangement as the belts needed constant attention on the tightness. Two of my kids rode back there and they could easily latch and unlatch the belts but because of the friction type adjustment they could not properly tighten the belts. Thankfully this cargo seat arrangement was never put to the ultimate test. I've since pulled these seats because we've gone to an 80 for the family rig.

What all did you get from SOR? Did you get the seatbelts? Brackets?

Wow! And I was just about to buy an 80 series!
How do you get out of the third row? Climb out the tail gate or forward over the second row???

Climb over the second row is what we did. My kids are still cool with climbing over. I wouldn't put anyone older than 10 back there though.

I think the factory 2nd row split seats normally fold down to make climbing into the 3rd row easier.
Here is some pics of the factory set up on ausiie spec 62 and 61 series.
Note the rear heater blower

Included from SOR: Seats, 3point Seat belts, floor panel with stock plates to lock seats down, canvas straps that hold seats to upright position, wheelwell supports. Misc hardware I purchased, then did the install. SOR basically provided me with everything I needed to have a complete factory installation, minus misc hardware (nuts, bolts, washers, etc.).
