Can I go with a OME 3" lift and not have to add brake lines and SB extensions. I'm not going to do any real hard off road for now just South West dirt so I am trying to get buy for a while without these additions. Thanks.

I have done neither and have the medium OME springs. I went and fully flexed the axles and never notice the lines being stressed beyond their limits. If you go with longer shocks that allow for more flex, you can lower the mounts for the brake lines and e-brake cable in the rear.

You have the 2" springs, he's talking about the 3" J springs.

The need for the extended brake lines and sway bar drops doesn't come from the taller springs, but from the fact that the OME L-Shocks that go with them allow the axle to droop more than the standard OME shocks.

I wouldn't recommend going without either modification. There have been pictures posted on here of front drive shafts that have been dented by the sway bar, and potentially stretching and breaking a brake line--whether you are currently planning on being in a situation where you would be doing that or not--is never a good idea.

I have the J's, and did the sway bar drops when I installed the lift (it did not appear to me that you could skip this), but still need to go back and get some ext. brakelines from Mr. Slee. I just had to disconnect all the mounting brackets when I installed springs so I didnt break them. There was enough slack then to push the axle down far enough. I have not wheeled it yet, and know not to do anything to flex the articulation... it would easily pop the dropped side brake-line.

edit** I have a extra pair of the later version drop brackets for the rear i'll likely never use? I ended up with the wrong ones and had to make my own. PM me if interested.

I have the 50mm heavy and managed to carve on my front driveshaft slip yoke cover with my SB. This was in mild off roading in south Texas.

I now have Slee's drop blocks on the front. I removed the rear bar, but that's another thread.

I can't say if you need the extended brake lines, but I have them so that tells you what I think :) Easy job and not too much $$.

Just do it so you don't have the stress of wondering if you should've done it or not.

That being said I'm streessed.

Did you guys do any panhard rod adjustments or controle arm adjustments or did you find that was not necessary with the three inch? I have never lifted a vehicle so I want to do it correctly the first time.

It would be better to readjust the panhard bar, however, you have to buy either a new panhard bar that is adjustable, or modify the stock one to be that way.

Since that is the case, I think it drives just fine with 3" and the stock panhard.

The control arms are not adjustable. You will need to correct the caster with either bushings or plates or a custom get-up.

I did nothing to the panhard rod, and I'm going to do Slee's caster plates in the next month. Drove it for a year like this, its ok, but wouldnt hand it over to a noob to drive.

J's are more like a 3" lift.
J's w/ 1" of spacers (mr gasket or whatever) and you have enough lift for caster plates.

not to highjack, but isn't the J springs considered a 4" lift? I usally think of the OME meduim 2.5" lift with 1" spacers to be a 3". With that said, I have the 2.5" with 1" spacers up front and 20mm in the rear, and not because of wieght. All i have are the stock bumpers etc.

IIRC (??) 2 people here have done the casters with just J springs and no spacers. Its overkill, but it drives better, and it can be done by a noob like me.

Jomama,
I drove mine and wheeled it pretty hard for about 2 years with Js + 20mm. I thought it drove fine. Once I put Christo's panhards, control arms etc on, it drove way better and it made me realize how nice it could drive.

I am getting the caster correction bushings so that will take care of that problem... If I press them in right.
