Exhaust shop recommendation

There is a guy named John at the Midas on Menaul, east of Louisiana, that does good work. He has done two systems for me.

Cruiserdan recommended a shop to me in Rio Rancho - it's called MBS Muffler & Brake Specialists. As you come up to the hill on 528 towards Rio Rancho, they are on the right. You can't miss it - the building has a gold dome on the top and sort of looks like a New Mexican Taj Mahal.

The building notwithstanding - they do good work. They modified Dan's 80's exhaust after he crushed it on an obstacle and limped home. Hoping to avoid the same fate (tailpipe carnage), I went to MBS and they cut off the resonator and rerouted the pipe so I couldn't smash it if I tried - and I've tried!

The owner and his son do all the work. I believe the owner's name is Buddy. He has done several jobs for me including new hangers (2 or 3 times :crybaby: ), bobbed tailpipe after it was crushed on a rock, and a new slimline muffler. They are 'old school' guys and their prices are reasonable. He will give you a quote before starting the job.

you were happy with the price Evan?

I am looking to do a cut and turn....

for the cats. :hillbilly:

Clever...

To be honest, I don't remember the price at MBS, so it must have been within reason. I have also heard of A Real Muffler Shop. They actually worked on one of my vehicles years ago, so it's a good sign that they're still in business...

this place did my entire FJ40 custom exhaust. i forget the guys name that did it, but he had done his own Camaro that he showed me. he did great work and it ran $400 for an entire custom job, from manifolds to the back. i told him what i wanted and it ws right on the money! (if you've heard my truck you know what i mean :D).

Dang I wish I had the money to do more. For now I will keep it simple, but I know where to go when I get funding :D

I chopped my resonator of with a saws all. Took about 10 seconds and now my truck sounds like I've got a turbo.:flipoff2:Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Mike, I think.

Good info, I will need an exhaust built for the F-Toy Buggy.

The guys at McKinney Motor company on Eubank (east side) just north of Indian School are great exhaust builders. They built the exhaust for my 40 and it's real nice....

Well, I went with Mike's recommendation of A Real Muffler Shop. They were super close to work So i was able to drop it off and pick it up later. They gave me a fair quote (with all the mud from Saturday on it :o). Here is some pics of the work :grinpimp:

They are a lot higher up than they look. I took off the heat shield that was there. You can see the heat shield in this picture:

I wish that I had done that cut-n-turn of the cats before I did the sliders. Nice. I'll bet he would have bobbed your tailpipe after the resonator if you had thought to get both done at the same time. Oh well, you can have them do that after you smash it flat. :D
