I searched and did not find a thread on this. I saw a few pics but what to see how you routed your exchaust out from under the back with your 4x4labs rear bumper installed. I am welding my bumper up and trying to decide on how to do the exhaust. It needs to exit from under the vehicle for Virginia state inspection.

Thanks in advance

I don’t know if this is an issue, but I just cut off the resonator.

I have a customer's build I finished up ls swap and a whole lot more including the 4x4 labs bumper build out. Here are some pictures. I built the custom exhaust.

Thanks for all the pics. I though about shooting it out of one of the holes. I do not plan to wheel this hard, but will be in Moab next month... I would hate to crush the tail pipe dropping off a ledge. I finished welding the bumper tonight. I need to prep, paint and reinstall.
No problem I really don't think he will be wheeling this rig it's to pretty...

I had thought about running it more towards the inside of the frame like coming out the back at an angle somewhere right here in this picture not through the bumper or anything kinda turned down just behind the bumper

I am liking that spot too. Mine is not terrible looking.

Nope not wheeling that one either at least if it was mine I've torn up to much nice s*** when I was younger not caring. He still has running boards lol it would look more appropriate with sliders tho. I like the 4x4 labs bumper I do have a couple complaints but it's all good. Nice looking 80 too

I did the same as @tmxmotorsports . I built mine back in 2008 and it's still one of my favorite mods I did to the bumper. It really protects the exhaust tip while wheeling and is a clean solution even if you are not wheeling hard. If you're building a DIY labs bumper, now is the perfect time to cut the hole in the wing to allow an exhaust exit.

x2 on just cutting the resonator off. Although my stock exhaust has been turned into a beer can with the few times I've smashed it..

Yeah, I have no desire to beat this one up. It is set up. 4:88's, low range t-case gears, triple locked, added a 12k Warn winch and a few other things since that pic. I bought the rear bumper and sliders to protect it. It is a daily and display truck for my shop, but I wanted it to work as well if needed. I still have to install the roof rack for my Kayaks. Overall it is the basic 80 on 35's. Our club is heading to Moab next month and it will be mostly 80's, a 100, and a 40. We are not hitting Pritchett Canyon this trip!

That is a real concern. I flattened the exhaust on my 200 doing exactly that somewhere on poison spider. And that was with the exhaust routed out behind the tire, way up out of the way by a dissent bumper. The shop that did my state inspection told me it is a requirement to have the exhaust extend out beyond the body, so the welded in an extended pipe. That exposed section was what got flattened. I had to hacksaw it off to drive home.

I think the way shipwreck did it would be pretty safe.

You could have a spare extension tip for inspection that routs the end out past the body?

I'll try and get a pic when I get to the shop, but I just slotted the wing on that side and tucked the tailpipe most of the way up in it. Added bonus it let me use the rear most factory hanger. On the stainless exhaust we used to build the last 18" or so was removable with a v-band. I have the longer section for passing inspection, and a shorter turndown to reduce smashability when wheeling.

Brilliant! I need to do this to my 80 once the weather warms up.

I wheel my lx so the exhaust had to be up and safe but even if your lightly wheeling having it stick out of the bumper is a concern for smashing these girls have big a## and like rubbing on the rocks. And I’m also a fan of keeping it quiet so I would keep the resonator. I actually have 2 mufflers

In VA it has to come out past the pass compartment. I am a state inspector so it has to be legit. I can not fail someone else and have mine wrong. :)

^This. Personally, I must have a resonator. It makes it sounds sooo much smoother. I think I made the best sounding (v8 swapped) 80 on planet earth with this setup:flipoff2: Dual in, single out Magnaflow muffler and a decent length resonator at the end.
