Making sure before I buy my exhaust dump that I'm going to measure it the right way. I was going to take a tape measure and wrap it around the pipe to measure it. Or does anyone know the size of the exhaust on a 91' FJ80 between the cats and the muffler?

2 6/8'' was that the size of the OEM pipes that you replaced?

Damn, so could I get away with taking a tape measure that tailor's use and just measure the pip that way?

I guess if you are desperate you could use a string, mark it and lay it out on a measuring stick.

Wouldn't just taking a measuring tape thats flimsy and wrap it around work?, is that the correct way to measure the pipe for an exhaust dump?

I don't know if it's the correct way to measure, but you can borrow a cloth measuring tape from the neighborhood tailor. But he probably won't want it back with that underbody grease smeared all over it ;p

You could wrap the tape around it and do the math. Exhaust pipe is measured in diameter not circumference.

Next time you order a pizza, ask the dude how big a large is, then ask him if that's 18" diameter, radius or circumference. It's pretty humorous making fun of the math impared. :)

I also like the measurement, 2 6/8 is that 2 6/8th of an inch if it is, then it should be said 2 3/4" no such measurement as 2 and 6 8ths LOL.... well it made me larf

what? Are you sure its not 2 12/16" If you want to be really precise you could make it 2 24/32" but I don't think it has to be THAT accurate.......... :D

Myself and 2 friends once ordered a pizza cut in thirds. The pizza guy told us it couldn't be done......

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm PIZZA!!!!!

This thread has been quite entertaining. :)

I would use the string method that concretejungle suggested, if you don't have any other method.
Then take that measurement and divide by 3.14. The circumference of a circle is pi times the diameter, so the diameter can be found by circumference/pi = diameter. I am assuming that you want the diameter.

High school geometry revisited, no wonder I got a C in that class . I'm welding an exhaust dump on my FJ80 right before the muffler, so I need the pipe size to be accurate before I order one/make one :D. I'll try diameter and then if that doesn't work cirumfernce dived by a piece of pi x 3.14 yadda yadda yadda...:D
