I will soon have to have a new exhaust put on the 4.5, the down pipe has already been welded, I have found a place here in the UK that will build one for me, including the downpipe and and new cats, price is £900 all in stainless.
what I would like to know, has anyone taken out the manifold bolts or are they studs? I have not looked as yet, but the exhaust guy said, it would make there job quicker if I made sure that these were free and undoable.
Are they prone to be seized and shear off etc if so, what is the best way to tackle them.....regards Mick.

They are nuts on studs. They should come out easily as I've never had problems with any exhaust fasteners over the years. The stud takes a torx socket, same setup as some of the other studs like on the EGR valve. I'd get a whole new set of studs and nuts to replace what is in ther right now.

That pretty good price- with downpipe, cats and also stainless? Pic would be nice
;) Also how big all the pipes gonna be? mm, inch?
Consider 900 pound sterling for all the work again thats cheap and here some polish/stainless steel JDM exhaust manifold: (About $1100.00 USD not yet applied tax and shipping charge)

Good Luck -

LT is bit more lucky than I... as more than a few studs have broken on various projects over the years. Usually it is from a hasty removal process on a coroded piece. When using a wrench, one should be able (or will develope) to feel if the fastener is releasing happily, or if it will bind and trouble is on the way. Lube and heat are the cures for the stuck little buggers.

Numbers I have...

Head to manifold studs 90116-10169 x13
nuts 90179-10128 x13
Manifold to pipe studs 90080-12007 x4
same as above nuts? x4

Don't forget the manifold to pipe gaskets/donuts.

Stupid question for who's already done it
how many bolts to remove the exhaust manifold ? and do I need to remove tha carb or other parts to get access to it ??

thanks
