Everyone.......... Meet Sully

There is nothing like the memories of wrenching on your first vehicle. That is a great looking '40 and I'm i'll be damned if your kid doesn't end up a cruiser head. As for Sully, that's my kids favorite movie....but then he's 2. :D Just giving you a hard time, Have fun and enjoy!

Today, we built a PS pump bracket out of 3/16" flat stock and some angle. We opted to place it on the passenger side, due to the air cleaner/head bolt removal issue (just did not want to take any chances). It turned out pretty nice, the fan shroud needs to trimmed for the fan belt. The fan belt will ride in the outside groove of the pulleys. The rear drive shaft is back from the shop and ready to be put in.

The Gang checking out Marks (aka landcrusher910)Cruiser notice Tony explaining to his kids how the spring loaded flapper valve keeps the fan booster in check with the flange lube bearing and the cool part , when he was done explaining everything .all the kids said WOW THATS COOL !!!!!!! :grinpimp:

Yep, not all of them were fooled. Will walked away mumbling, that guy is an idiot!! :)

Thanks for posting some pics, we did not take 1 photo of Sully hitting any trails. I guess I was too busy showing Wyatt how to drive, Oh well.

Just about done with this one. We put in a new clutch, pressure plate, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and a gear reduction starter. Took it for a test spin everything worked great. The next day and the clutch m/c went out, so we installed a new one along with the slave cylinder, hard line and steel braided line.

I had installed a booster from a 4-runner when I did the mini disc conversion but the vacuum assist was too much. If you looked at the brake pedal it would stand it on its front bumper. I had the original booster rebuilt, $80.00 1 day turn around, and it works awesome!!!

While looking through my pile of parts from my Snotz project, I found the courtesy light that goes next to the glove box, wired it in and it actually works!

Finally, I pulled out of the garage a roof rack I had on my '77 FJ40 and mounted it on top of Sully. The only thing left to do is get new tires to mount on the freshly repainted stock steelies and hub caps.

Very nice job. I will be starting a mod restore on a 72 next year. You mod is inspiring. Good luck with Sully. I need to name my fj. Maybe I will call it Mike. Sullys little Friend.

LOL, you will have to paint it green to get into character.

Thanks for the compliments, my son is really excited about "his" cruiser. He worked very hard and learned a lot, and so did I.

Great lookin truck! Ur son'll never forget these days ;)

Do you have just one son, one kid at home.... I trust you won't have to be doin this 'build' 2,3, or 4 more times

What a team.....good time spent together.... thanks for sharing :)

Well hopefully he will be waiting for quite a while!!!

I got home from work this morning and got the kid busy. He washed his cruiser, it gave us a chance to take really good look at everything and we talked about the finer points of his new ride. We took it for a spin to get lunch after the washing and I will really need to address the steering issue first. The combination of worn tie rods and the extended shackles make for a white knuckle ride. All in all, it is a very sound cruiser. Here are some photos of the whole vehicle.

(*Sorry-Guess I got in on this one a little late. Been gone a while.)

Had a 40 once. Love them! That one appears to be in pretty nice (cosmetically) shape. Very nice ride:cheers:

Steering and brakes first! Gotta be able to steer 'em:steer: and stop 'em.

The rest is, well...just the rest:D

Spend as much quality time as you can with your kid. I let the military and law enforcement get in the way when my kids were growing up and now, I regret it. You can never get that time back:(

Both of you enjoy:cheers:

Off Duty,

I am a fireman in LA and I feel pretty fortunate to have ample time off to spend with my kids (3 boys). He is still at that age where it is still cool to hang out with dad :) which is alright with me. My other 2 boys like the cruiser as well, they like bouncing around on the dirt roads. Nothing like the sound of kids laughing and having a great time.

MarcoPolo,

I have 3 boys ages 15, 11 and 7. As far as more builds go, I still have my 40 and a 45 to finish. I better get busy!!

MtnClimber,

We took it to Calico and did not get 1 photo of the 40, let alone a photo with my son driving :frown:

Thanks allan man.

Yeah, I had read that post but I figured in the 10 months that had past that you may have brought it out again. Pardon if this has been already covered in this thread, but what is the plan for tires now that there is some clearance for 35s, maybe 37s?

Ideally 35's on stock steelies with hubcaps, I do not want to cut the rear quarters, so there may be some trial and error at the tire shop. We will be putting the new rubber on the first part of January.

Cool. What tires you have in mind? Seems like everyone around here is going for the Xtreme Mud Terrains.

Sweet! There goes my excuse of my kid slowing me down!!!!!!!!
I have been watching snotz and was curious what happened.... Finally ran across this build and now i know! Both are sweet and I can't wait to see it with the new rubber. I second what everyone has said about what a dad....... I might one day buy my son a fj however i can assure you he would get my old tires and i would have some NEW SHINY ONES! :D

I saw where you referenced this build in one of your recent posts. Update it with pics of its current state! You have neglected this awesome thread. Shame on you. ;p

That is really a nice cruiser! Excellent find. It looks good on your son:lol:.My son drove mine the last two years of high school. He said the guys with brand new lifted trucks that mommy and daddy bought them hated him 'cause the chicks liked "his" cruiser better.:D Be patient and have fun!
