Does the engine still sound like a vacuum cleaner when you cold start it? Did you remove the air pump and all the plumbing and was it hard to do so?

Can't say I have noticed that mine sounds any different on a cold start vs a warm startup. I'll listen for it now and see if I hear anything.

@RyanR - I'm surprised you went through the effort of installing the blocking plates- from what I've read (mostly on the 4.7)- people are able to just install the bypass harness and leave the plates alone- and successfully solve the error code with no drivability issues.

Did you try to drive the truck with just the harness installed?

I may be going down this route. Just did the valley plate leak repair last weekend and now getting a P2445 code every other day. Should have done it while I had it all apart.
If you're getting the error code right after a big repair, I'm highly inclined to believe it's related. Loose vacuum hose or wiring harness maybe?

I did not try driving with just the harness. From my understanding of the instructions the plates could be skipped if your valves are not failed in an open state. If you get to this step and the nuts don't break free super easy I would DEFINITELY try using the kit without the plates first before I risked sheering off the studs.

That said, if the nuts aren't corroded this part of the install is easy breezy so may as well have the peace of mind knowing its never going to be an issue down the road.

I will check everything again. Was pretty sure everything got hooked up right. Could be related to the bolt I forgot but not really sure. Pretty sure it just holds the pump plate to the block. There are 2 more that do the same thing.

One of my co-workers installed that kit on a Tundra last week. I was working on another project at the time, but I checked in during several phases of the install. Seemed like a nice harness, but tapping into the power source was kind of a rigged solution. Unplug a relay from the fuse box, wrap the wire around one of the terminals, and plug it back in...

I squirreled away a mental note about what all was involved in case I ever had to do it...

Definitely not the same kit. The Hewitt kit is all plug an play with all OEM Toyota connectors. Nothing janky like that going on. You don't touch any relays or the fuse box.

It was 100% the Hewitt kit. Everything about the kit looked good except that. He showed me the install book where they describe the procedure. We were both surprised. It was janky.

They're both Hewitt kits. The wire-wrap-around-fuse-leg is the old kit; new kit is plug and play as described.

Looks possible to me.

So plug and play but impossible to reach the plugs?

Exactly right. You can reach them... just VERY awkward to actually get a grip on them and remove them. All in with servicing my front brakes and taking my sweet time it was a 3 hour job so its not that bad, it is jut that everything else is SOOOO easy that part feels rough haha.

That makes sense. The version I installed was the Gen-II kit, no experience with their previous kit but it looks like the previous kit is just a delete where the Gen-II emulates the system and the stock ECU thinks everything is in place and functioning.

Can anyone confirm if these kits are emission friendly in CA? I have an 07 tundra 5.7 v8 that just threw the code yesterday so I found this forum and contacted hewitt they are telling me I should get the gen II kit however their site states it is for off-road only. Want to make sure I'd be able to pass smog here before I get this.

By the letter of the law these are not legal for road use. I read up on this bypass kit on the tundra forums and looks like there hasent been any issues reported with passing CA smog. Best to not take it to the dealer for the smog test though.

My LX was smog tested in CO after the installation of the kit and passed without issue. Not sure if there is any difference in testing methods between states though.

Thank you will give it a shot.

Just hit this recently, seems my ageing 200 (2008, 181k miles) is finding all the faults that can be found. P2447 Code.

There are a lot of net articles out there like this one, which is pretty good I think: P2447 OBD-II Trouble Code: Secondary Air Injection System Pump Stuck off Bank 2 - https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p2447-obd-ii-trouble-code-secondary-air-injection-system-pump-stuck-off-bank-2-by-jay-safford

Question for folks using the kit, or in general, are there any concerns about catalytic converter life, specifically shortening it due to clogging? Has anyone actually fixed a pump? I was under there this weekend and I couldn't even see the things from the bottom or the top. Looks like a real fun job especially as described here.
