Valve cover notched for arp studs. Oil pan drain line welded in (out of practice on tig). Notched the upper alternator mount to clear the lower radiator hose

Almost ready to go back in!

Flywheel, oil pan, transmission brackets on. Ready to go back in.

Still need to do some wiring under the hood but engine building is done.

I was able to put together this graphic showing the Garrett GBC22 vs the ct20 and ct26 turbos. I interpret this to be that the Garrett will be a combination of the two, closer to a CT20 turbine wheel for faster spooling with the compressor wheel closer to a CT26. Combine that with 30 years of technology going into the Garrett it should be a great match

Engine is ready to go back in and of course there is 2" of snow on the ground in Iowa.
Ordered header flange from LCE ($60) and stainless 304 1-1/2" Sch10 pipes and a T25 flange from Ace Race Parts ($100)
Going to try making a log style top mount

S/S....don't forget to backpurge.

And as required by law, pics when you're done. ;)

Yeah we'll see. I tried back purging when I did my stainless exhaust but my setup sucked and it still sugared and I just wasted a bunch of argon

Making good progress.

Starter, wiring, exhaust is done. Fuel system primed and had leaks from the rail damper. Took it off and cleaned up around the screw and that seemed to help. Swivels around the evil energy Amazon AN fittings are wet, not dripping but wet. Mounting the fuel pressure regulator then putting on the intake.

Intake air system and coolant system is left. May be able to crank it today yet

It runs! Not without complications, CSF radiator cracked and was leaking, swapped with original for now. Timing was off and battery was dead for first start attempt.

Got it running today after adjusting the distributor and reset MS timing. Shakes like a dog passing a peach pit and the Spartan wideband is blinking too cold. But at least I can move it into a heated garage

Quick ? regarding your injectors.... will/did they work with stock ecu or are they just to compliment the MS?
They are to take advantage of the MS and open up options to run E85. They would work with the factory ecu as they are low impedance but don't think it would work well. Ex. Toyota starting is asking for x pulse width, thinking it's 200cc. Then the same pulse width is actually 750cc and you triple the fuel.

Pre rebuild when I was running MS, it was with factory injectors

Got the wideband figured out. The heater ground in MS on ECU Pin13 is not used by MS! So my jumper to the factory harness was getting 12V for the heater from the main EFI but was not being grounded and would not turn on. Also the Yellow/White wire under the drivers seat for the O2 Heater ground goes to another plug in the passenger kick panel that turns the yellow/white into the green/yellow. This connector was full of corrosion and I didn't have continuity anyways.

Pulled the pin out of my jumper harness and ran the ground to the kick panel and the wideband heats up, LED stays lit, and starts reading 20+ AFR at engine off.

Turbo manifold pipes are in and is going to take some clever notching to get the 90deg elbows to mate with the Ts.

Taking a break for thanksgiving and will get back at it next week. It starts and idles with working O2.

Driving around letting the VE analysis do its thing.

Idles at 1000RPM and have driven it around the street in 1-3rd gear up to 5000RPM trying to get the target AFR and VE table dialed in.
Wideband is still semi-erratic at light load so I need to chase an exhaust leak at the collector flange.

There is a low frequency tick at idle that I can hear in the cab. At 1000 RPM and 16 rotations per second I can hear 16 ticks with a slowed down audio recording. I am thinking it's just forged piston slap but need to do some more testing.

I've been struggling with slight misfires as well so I ordered all new plugs/wires/cap/rotor/coil

1912715021 PACKING, DUST PROOF
1910273021 Distributor Rotor
Distributor Cap
9091902113 Ignition Coil
9091929055 Spark Plug Wire Set

Found the ticking with the screwdriver stethoscope - fuel pressure regulator mounted on the firewall.

More driving around and starting to calibrate accel enrichment. Cruises at 70mph in 5th gear, got it up to 4000RPM in 4th gear before letting off.

Engine definitely likes the new ignition system

Having fit and welded my share of mechanical pipe over the years, I was a bit intrigued with your manifold challenge there. Played around in cad and came up with this, fwiw.

4x std radius 1-1/2 90's and 3x short fillers.

Latest table. Get to park it outside and work on cold start this weekend lows in the teens. Still working on accel enrichment

Couldn't rev the old engine past 4000RPM!
