You might keep an eye in the classifieds and see if a motor comes available for you. There was a guy doing a cummins swap just a few months ago that had his drivetrain for sale for a good price, pretty sure its sold now. You can also get running motors from the salvage yard for cheaper than you are going to pay to have someone else rebuild it.

Also, are you sure it needs headgasket and rings or did somebody tell you that ?

How many miles?

We have some local members that have shops, but unless it has 300k, I would say just do head gasket.

What are the local shops you're referring to?

Jobe has shop, and cheviot a takes on work sometimes.

Wow, hate spellcheck. Chevota

HG in KC also

Fellow KC driver here also... hi all!:steer:
Mine just developed same symptoms. Sucks.
I had it on CL for sale the past month thinking it was just needing cats & exhaust and just looked under oil cap to see the green slime. I don't really want to sell it for a loss... ugh.

so - leak down test? or just go straight to dismantling the engine and ordering parts?

anyone already have the Head gasket DVD in town that I could buy/borrow?

I'll call the shops you mentioned also or are they individuals?

I see that I've successfully located the other four 80 series owners that I occasionally pass on my commute to an from work.

Who knew that it would take an engine thread to bring us all together?

We should all take a wheeling trip sometime if we can keep our cruisers running long enough! :-)
