There might be a loose valve or 2. I set mine at the loose end of spec's; better to hear them than burn them. Dry then wet compression test is easy enough. Leak down test might be helpful - some place will loan you the tool for free.

I think I hear an exhaust leak more than anything. Start a cold engine and quickly feel around the manifold at the engine top & bottom, the carb/heat riser and the donut.
 
Or, piston-slap is caused by the cylinder bores are no longer round, worn down, off-axis like the block has been stressed, over-heated, or some wear is present in the bearing surfaces.

The performance machine shops will go so far as to bolting on a 'torque plate' to the block when they bore and hone the cylinders, because the tension from having all the headbolts in tension against the holes in the block will ever so slightly change the final shape of the cylinders.
