My recent aquistion has just arrived and the engine is making a ticking noise at start up, it goes away in 20 seconds or less and then stays away until the engine goes cold. According to the PO it has done this the entire time he has owned it (4 years) and thought that it was normal, he also said that the Toyota dealership had no issues with this noise. It does have a TRD supercharger on it and I wonder if that has anything to do with it. It is a 2000 with 98k on the clock. All services were just completed, timing & serpentine belt, water pump, fuel/oil/air filters, pcv, and the radiator were flushed all within the last 20 miles.
I find it unusual that a 100 series would make this type of noise at all. It sounds like a lifter has died, but if has been going for four years, not to mention that there's a supercharger attached to this motor, then I just don't know -any ideas?
Thanks,
John
