Here is an interesting chart that I am working up trying to figure out my options for a drive train swap into my FJ45LV

Comments/additions are welcome.

Weights are published curb weights I found online... as are HP numbers. Purple are stock, yellow are my current serious options.
Torque is a HUGE factor in Land Cruisers but is not considered in this chart, I know.

More commonly manufactures and magazines use lbs/hp. Same concept and also why I said the 1fz would give you good power to weight in a 45. In your other thread I showed that a 45 with a 1 fz has a better power to weight ratio than a 100 with a 2uz. And while the 100 isn't a sports car it feels like it has modern power. The other thing to think about is if you add too much power you are going to be severely under braked. The old brakes on 45 leave a lot to be desired and even with disc swap, you will easily over run your brakes. I do this in my 80 all the time and it's a bad feeling. Lol

2UZ would make for a very fun LV to drive; daily, wheeling, whatever. Not a simple swap, but doable. Brake upgrades to both ends would be a definite need, thus swapping axles would be the easiest way IMHO. What is the weight of the 2UZ vs. 1F? May be lighter, working in your favor.

Yeah, there was a 70 series rolling chassis for sale on here that I didn't get. It would have been a nice upgrade slid under the LV... new brakes, coils front...

Its interesting that everyone says "bigger brakes" when going to a bigger engine. I'm not going to be going any faster with a 2UZ, just getting to normal speed more easily with less drama.

The larger engine will have a greater mass thus more momentum at the same speed and will require more energy to stop.

Nope....a 1FZ is likely lighter than an F/2F... a 2UZ isn't much heavier, if at all...

Cant tell if you are being sarcastic or not...:-)

The LV will have a disc brake front and later model drum rears (with parking brake) and a dual circuit cylinder with all new hard and soft lines. Not powerhouse brakes but better than 1966 drums with a single circiut master.

Not at all. I'm guilty of not reading carefully and just assumed the engines you were considering were heavier. If you aren't trying to stop at a higher rate of speed and there is a negligible difference in weight, I can't imagine why you would need more stopping power.

2uz is almost 150-200lbs lighter than a 1fzfe. It is easy to say youre only going to drive 55mph but when you have the extra power, there will be time you stomp on it, and you will be going much faster, much quicker than your brakes want to handle.

I've gone 80-85 in my FJ60... a hair raising experience but not because I couldn't stop quickly (although I probably couldn't have) it was hair raising because my 60 does not handle like a fine European sports car - especially at that kind of speed. My worry is not stopping its staying in control if there was any need for a sudden lane change or the like!

The LV's suspension will be with street use in mind rather than for wheeling like my 60.
