Just picked up a 1993 1fz with 301,000 miles. Runs and drives great.
Compression tests evenly at just under 150psi on all cylinders. Carfax shows no major repairs other than radiator. I replaced the starter motor and power steering pump for the previous owner.
Since I got the truck I've been doing catchup maintenance, nothing major though. Control arm bushings, shocks, brushes in the alternator, a couple of hoses, drive belts, front main seal and oil pump seal.
It puffs blue smoke for about 3 seconds on startup but does not appear to burn oil otherwise. Badly needs a rear main seal as it drips from behind there but only when running.
Contemplating putting in new valve seals and re-ringing the pistons, maybe some bottom end bearings but I suspect they are still in good shape.

Engine life study

Bought my 94 fzj 80 a couple of months ago with less than 50,000 original miles I had the front axle Resealed and bearings packed ( from sitting to long )
I doubt that it has ever had dirt under its tires , but that will soon change , I get the feeling that she was feeling under appreciated , she had plain old street radials on her when I picked her up ! ( what a crime ) !

96 1FZ-FE
270,000
non-rebuilt, original headgasket
running strong!

95 1FZ-FE - 170000 miles orig HG Running strong.

What are the averages now?

'93 fzj80 with 250k on it. Puff of blue on startup and leaks a drop or two of oil from the front main, but other than that runs like a champ. Motor has never been opened up for anything.

1FZFE-original HG-167K miles-runs like a top:steer:
