planning on flipping my rear springs today, im 90% sure the engine hoist will lift it enough to pull the springs but want to make sure before i go buy a hoist. i know my floor jack and jack stands won't go high enough.

SOA on 35's.

thanks.

If you use your jack under the axle/spring plate, you should be able to get it high enough to get some stands under the frame. Unless you've got some silly-big tires. But...if you're looking for an excuse to by a hoist this sounds like a good one to me.

If you are referring to a hydraulic "cherry picker"

As a general rule jack-stands are much safer than relying on the hydraulics of a hoist. If your jackstands aren't high enough than a taller set may be in order. The truck won't have to be in the air for very long but it may not be very stable. It may get a little crowded onder the rig with the legs from the hoist, axle, springs, etc. in a small space. When I did mine the jack stand fit perfectly under the frame rails at the front of the spring hanger.

Maybe someone in your area can loan you a set? Beats getting squashed or having stuff in the way.

There's no way I'd get under a vehicle that was being held up by just a cherry picker. Remember that flipping springs will involve lots of hammering, tugging, heavy wrenching, basically all sorts of possibility for failure. I might use the hoist to lift it up and get the stands under it, but that's it. I highly suggest you get some taller stands.

did you lift from the axle? then put jackstands on the frame from the lifted height?

Yes. A floor jack under the axle housing, Tall stands under the frame once you get it high enough to let the springs droop out w/o having the tires on the ground. A high lift jack may also be helpful, but do not get under the rig w/o having solid stands under the frame. HTH.

went and bought 2 12 ton jack stands, only stands i could find that are above my frame height by a few inches.

off topic question: are stock shackles the best for SOA?

Why not just remove the tires. Stands under the frame, flip your springs, put tires back on?

where are you putting the stands? forward of the rear axle where the frame is the lowest right? unless its unbelievably tall with big tires that should work just fine

Got one side done. Took me about 25 minutes.
My frame height is at 24 1/2 right now shorter shackles should hopefully drop me down to 23.
