My 1965 fj40 has a build date of early 1964. But has a replacement block (no serial number) in it with a casting number of 41223, then a 21 under it.
Does that mean the replacment block was constructed December 23rd of 1964?

Do you mean there is no number stamped in the flat area that normally has a number ? If that is true , my history remembers that if Toyota had to replace an engine under warranty, no serial number was there.

Correct, no serial number on the block. Just surprised to see that it was potentially replaced so soon after it was made if I read that engine code correctly.

That’s the way I read the code. How do you know that’s a replacement block, assumed by the missing S/N?

Even though these engines are stout, in the early days sometimes tune ups were done and if the distributor was not down far enough to engage the oil pump, then no oil flow killed the engine. I know of one person who had a tune up, at a dealer, and they had to replace his engine. He had a 1968 FJ40.
