Got a chance to drive my cruiser around quite a bit yesterday and can't tell you how much better it runs after Jim's carb rebuild. I've read posts that sang the praises of his work and took them with a grain of salt, but now I'm thinking they were understating the results. First off, the truck now starts like it wants to. Second, it idles at a rock steady 500 rpm. And third, it's just got hell of a lot more kick. Yesterday I drove up a hill that I've been driving up every day for years to get to work. In the past my cruiser struggled in 3rd gear to maintain 45-47mph. Yesterday I went up it in 4th gear at 54mph, and I knew there was more power there if I needed it. This is the first time I've felt like maybe my truck isn't all that underpowered after all.

Sounds Good!

So how can the rest of us contact Jim (unless I am the only one who doesn't know already). Also how much did the rebuild run?

x 10000000000!!!!

I installed my Jim C. rebuild two weekends ago. it's a world of difference. no need for the choke anymore, starts right up, MUCH better throttle response, and I can now accelerate up hills. :-)

next to the H55F, it's the best thing I've done for my FJ60.

His handle on this board is fj40Jim. Just send him a message. The rebuild was $295. He can take a while to respond but it's worth the wait.

Hey Cardinal, just noticed where you live. It's the hill from Boulder to Louisville that I was talking about!

small world!

That was my test hill too! I was in the same boat as you... and I couldn't really get rpms over 3200, no matter what. Now...it's smooooooooooth like buttah with a VERY noticable improvement in acceleration.

Yeah, Yeah...

Okay so I'm the dumb new guy... Sorry for the useless post and thanks for the info anyway... maybe one day I will be smart enough to bash junior members too! Until then I'll work on using the search function better.

I wasn't bashing dude. I am a 60 nüb as well. I've had my 80 forever but the 60 world I am just treading in. So the comment was aimed at both of us, not just you.

Sooo uhh welcome to mud :flipoff2:

haha, thats a 3rd gear hill for me unless 36 is clear and i can gather speed for it, then its 4th, but a slow 4th

and we're all newbies to someone... that why we spend time on forums, to learn

except for the smartest land cruiser forum junky... there must be one smartest out there somewhere, and he never makes mistakes... ever

thanks for noticing......

I concur with the accolades to Jims rebuilds. My truck starts so easily and has great power where my old carb had definitive flat spot. He is busy, but it is worth the wait.

I know that hill - I bought my FJ62 from a guy is Louisville. Long and agonizing, that one!

thanks for noticing......
Sorry but all I could think of when you said that was

Pitty I swapped for a 383 stroker, that may have been worth trying.

was his name Matt?

If it was...I know him.

i still have to work hard to keep my chin up on I70 when truckers are passing me going twice my speed as im pinned in second and debating going to first up to eisenhower westbound... now thats long and agonizing

Yeah, I think I max out at 35mph on that one. I'd be curious what difference, if any, there would be now.

Thanks for the accolades, I'm not worthy.:o

But what you guys REALLY need to climb out of Denver is a turbocharger, sucking through a healthy carb. Then the mighty 2F could make sea-level power (or better) at 8000'.
