emission control box

under my dash i noticed a box with emission control marked on it , i'm running a small block already. i'm thinking this is for the old six cylinder and probably not even hooked up to anything, is it easy to say remove from the wiring harness altogether or better off left alone . anyone have any experience with this also....

Do you feel that this component is affecting the functionality or drivability of your vehicle?

i,ve got some wiring issues to deal with ie, no fuel gauge,no horn or brake lights, while looking at the mess and knowing i'm gonna have to deal with it. i figured that getting into the harness and cleaning up the loose ends and maybe removing the things that are not needed, might make it look alot cleaner under the hood than the mess that is there now....thanx
