hopefully we'll find it. got the truck home, all lug bolts save one sheared. P.O. had wrong style (acorn instead of shank) lugs on, and i didn't check 'em when i should have.
the wheel came off at about 50 mph, sped ahead of me and hit a barricade shooting it about 30 feet in the air. then it landed. on my truck. if i had bought a rack of lesser quality or one that wasn't full length my passenger could have been seriously injured or worse as it landed right above her head and the sun roof.
damage as far as i can tell: sheared lug bolts, ruined rotor, customized roof rack and rain gutters.
i spent the better part of two hours walking i-10 looking for the wheel with no luck. i can't afford to lose it, so i'll be out there looking as soon as i can get out there tomorrow. if anyone can help the extra eyes will really help.

Wow. Good luck finding the wheel, and thank the powers that be that this didn't end with a much more tragic result. Ih8stupidPO's.

 what a story

good luck

Good luck and super scary!!!

Found it! It was on the opposite side of the freeway. Amazing it didn't take anyone out. His rotor wore a hole right thru the rim so the the rim is toast. There's a good dent in his roof rack right above his sunroof. The rack saved some serious damage there.
He's got a few $$ to spend now to get her road worthy again.

not a bad idea, john. if nothing else, it's a good reminder for everyone to check their lugs. i know i won't forget ever again.
big thanks, again, to alvin (and zoe) for driving me out to find it, and to tmac (from azfj.org) for coming out and actually finding it within 2 minutes, saving us a lot of time.
hopefully it won't be too much $$ to get it going again, but it'll definitely cut into my gas budget for a while...
